Venice on a budget

Can we try a thread for Venice frugally? What should a frugal (realistic) budget be for food?

Do you mean restaurants? Or are you willing to eat picnic style from the grocery store, green grocers, bakery, etc. For one person? Do you wish to include beer, wine, or cocktails?

See if you can rent an apartment....and prepare some of your own food. Decent food in Venice is not inexpensive.

I am traveling with 7 others of which 5 are teens and 1 is 10. We are willing to picnic or eat from grocers.

We got good fixings from a deli counter that was at the back of the grocery store on the Doroduro (area we were staying).

Many of the casual cafes have ready-made sandwiches in glass cases you can choose from (roasted vegetables, tomatoe and sliced boiled egg, etc.).

Eating standing up is cheaper than eating sitting down.

Pizza

Gelatto

You can eat cheap in Venice especially for the teens in your group. There are pizza places that sell pizza by the slice (approx. $2.00 per large slice)with lots of great toppings. We even bought a whole pizza from a local hangout that we found near the coin laundry, the pizza was great and cheap. The gelatto stores are great and cheap as well (yum). They also have an area that has Burger King etc. Nothing gourmet but it does allow you to budget your money to spend on sightseeing in wonderful Venice. Enjoy your trip!!!!
