Venice Messner Hotel?
 

Boy, is it tough to find a room in Venice for on night in May! I have a reservation at the Messner, fodors listed a few years back ...wondering if anyone has stayed there?? Thanks in advance!

Marco <BR>in less than 15 mins. From www.veniceinfo.it and www.itwg.com./ <BR>it does not look bad for atwo star hotel, 32 rooms with 34 baths, rooms <BR>have tv, safe, phone and may be necessary air conditioning.. I have stayed at the Messner. Important questions is "are you in the main building or the annex". The main building is supposed to be nicer. We stayed in the annex. It was just fine. The room was not a good size, although the shower was tiny, but aren't they all. It took a little walk to get to our room. But all in all an enjoyable experience. The bed was good, the view was interesting (across rooftops), the place was clean. Hey, it wasn't the Hilton, but for the limited time we spent in our room, it was just fine. The breakfast was pretty good too (hey, they had Nutella, what else can you ask for in life). The location is great. Get off at....okay, the cathedral that is on the opposite side of the canal from the Duomo and the walk is pretty quick. If you faxed them, they should have sent you a map. It is near the Guggenheim. A plus is the location allows you to wander through some areas of Venice that are away from the tourist section. All in all, a good experience. You can relax!

Oops, just check the post above mine. Yes, the stop is Salute. It is so beautiful to get off at that stop. Oddly, we were advised by a number of people to stay in Dorsoduro rather than near San Marco to get away from the crowds and we preferred our quiet walk, over the river and through the woods, back to our hotel. Mosts posts on this forum tend to like to be near the action. To each his own!

What am I on today? I just read my first post and saw the typo. I said the room was "not" a good size. It WAS a good size. Plenty big for us and our stuff, although long and skinny. Had a little sitting area under the window. Just fine.

Thanks Richard and Beth for the info! The Messner was the only place left with a room for May 31st. I tried about a dozen hotels that have been listed on the forum! The Messner is also listed several times in Fodor's. <BR>My daughter and I are planned this trip at the last minute...why go to Phoenix when you can travel to Itialy for lesser of an airfare ($425). It was an easy choice! However, I have found so many places booked for the first week in June!! <BR>Thanks again for the description of the area and the hotel!!

I have stayed at the Messner. I stayed in the Annex, and I second Beth Y's comments about the place. The indoor walk to the room reminded me of a cross between the a lab rat's maze and that painting by M.C. Escher with the endless stairways. But I am exaggerating. My only negative thought of the place was "I hope there is no fire". <BR> <BR>Beth is right, it ain't the Ritz, but it's clean, staff is great, speak perfect English. The breakfast is included with your room rate and has more than the typical Italian-hotel breakfast: in addition to the basket of bread and jam/nutella, you also get unlimited juice, cereal, and salami to put on your bread. So basically you can eat a couple sandwiches at breakfast and have just a snack for lunch! <BR> <BR>The walls were a tad thin (I could hear my neighbor singing in the shower!) but overall the place is very quiet. In fact the best thing about the Messner is its location, in a very quiet corner of Dorsoduro. I was there New Year's Eve 1999, and slept soundly after an easy walk from the pandemonium at St Mark's square. <BR> <BR>The Peggy Guggenheim Museum and the Accademia are very close--two excellent museums which are very different from each other--great places to visit on rainy days. <BR> <BR>I plan on staying there again during my next visit. I think it will work for what my daughter and I want to do on limited time in Venice.Like I mentioned in a previous post, I feel lucky to get a place to stay for one night! I'll let you know what I think when I get back the first weekend in June! Thanks again
