Venice Marco Polo aiport to Hotel Danieli
 

Hi everyone,

Based on my research, Marco Polo airport is on the mainland and you would have to take either water transportation into the city, or a bus to Piazzale Roma on the edge of the city, in order to get into Venice proper. Sounds like I have two choices below:

1) Marco Polo Airport, bus to P. Roma and then, by vaporetto, arrive at our hotel.

2) Water taxi -- expensive ($90-100), but incomparably memorable first view of the city.

I am thinking it would be a better idea to opt for choice 2 water taxi. Where would I find the water taxi exactly? Are there signs in the airport?

Natalie ! The water dock is about 500 meters from the terminal---there is a bus or you can walk. The water taxis are there waiting---try to share a ride with another couple---the boats hold 6 people. Or, ask the hotel for help. They may have a deal for you--or not. It is magical, if the weather is good.

There is also the Alilaguna---public transport directly from the airpport dock (right by the water taxis). It takes a bit longer than the water taxi, but is much less expensive:

Also, the Danieli may have their own transport--ask them.

or...
you can take a taxi to the train station, then hire a water taxi.

i think this might be cheaper than taking the water taxi straight, but i'm not sure.
however, this way you get the added benefit of cruising the entire grand canal on the way to your hotel. it's really worth every penny, IMO.

The vaparetto might not stop at your hotel, and then you'll have to lug your suitcases over bridges and cobblestone streets.

The vaporetto stops precisely in front of the Danieli, so the proposal of taking a taxi to Piazzale Roma (not the train station - how should a car taxi arrive there??, there's nothing but water and rails) doesn't sound very logical.

franco, you're right. i meant the Piazzale Roma. but if the vaparetto stops there, then that makes it really easy!

Take the second choice and try to share. We arrived at night and it certainly was a memorable way to see it and we too stayed at the Danieli. Once, we made a mistake and got on a water taxi which made every stop and it took forever!

Korea Princess - water taxis are private vehicles hired out to specific passengers at a time: they don't stop anywhere but where you pay them to stop. You must be thinking of the vaporettos, which have preassigned stops all along Canal grande.
