Hi, everyone,

We're going to Venice in the spring and are torn between Hotel Campiello and Locanda Orseolo. There's a 40E price difference between them; Locanda Orseolo is more expensive. I've stayed at Hotel Campiello and liked it very much, but I'm tempted by the glowing reviews that Locanda Orseolo has gotten on TripAdvisor. For those of you who've stayed at Locanda Orseolo, is it worth the splurge? And if anyone's stayed at both, which did you prefer?

To clarify: It's a 40E price difference per night, so a difference of 160E overall.

I have only stayed at the Locanda Orseolo not Hotel Campiello, but I would say it is definitely worth the splurge! All the glowing reports here and on Trip Advisor are true.

I haven't stayed at Orseolo, but have stayed at Campiello, as you have. I think it is worth staying there again just to see Thomas, the owner's handsome son!! Oh to be single and 20 years younger!!

hi jkstrouse ~ we have not been but are about to leave in 56 days... One thing to consider, do you receive a full breakfast at Hotel Campiello? I know at Locanda Orseolo you do, perhaps that could justify a higher rate for you. (And from what I have heard it is not just croissants but a full on homemade breakfast cooked by the owners...yum!)

Given the excellent reputation of the Locanda Orseolo and also all of the nice comments regarding their breakfasts, I'd go with them (if you can get a reservation) rather than at the other hotel. If I ever get a chance to revisit Venice I'd definitely email them for a reservation.

I have recently stayed at Locanda Orseolo and I would vote for there only if you want personal attention, a delightful, tasteful breakfast with possibly gondoliers singing in the canal while you watch through your tableside window, and the most charming hosts in Venice.

You arrive as a guest but you leave as family. The reviews are accurate.

We stayed at Locanda Orseolo this summer and it was absolutely worth the price.
The people were fantastic, they were so friendly. Every morning the made breakfast to order: crepes, omelets, whatever you want. The location was perfect, close to San Marco but private and quiet at the same time.
If I were to go back to Venice I would stay here again.

Two weeks ago, we stayed three nights at the Locanda Orseolo and were thoroughly impressed with the warm hospitality, delicious full breakfast, and charming room overlooking a small canal. We picked the hotel based on the strength of the glowing reviews -- and they are uniformly accurate.

I have not stayed at the Hotel Campiello, so I cannot compare the two.

I've stayed at the Campiello and it was fine, but after all the glowing observations about the Orseolo, I'm going to try it next year.

Just returned from my second week-long stay at Orseolo...and I would not stay anywhere else (even if offered free lodging at Gritti Palace).

The reviews are true - and definitely worth the total extra money.

Well, you've all convinced me---Locanda Orseolo it is! Thanks for your responses. I'll be sure to post a report when we return. For my last trip I was "in charge" of three first-time Italy travelers, so I didn't get to take many notes---this time I'm bringing the journal!
