Venice-like villages close to and similar to Venice

A while back, I read about towns/villages close to Venice that are just as charming (or more) with canals and less conjested, less expensive. But now I can't seem to find the information because I can't seem to recall the name of the town(s). Any clue? Thanks for any and all help and information.

Chioggia might be claimed by its boosters to have Venetian charm (it has three canals).

They're deluding themselves. It's (IMHO) about as charming as The Venetian in Las Vegas.

There's only one Venice. Nearby places like Torcello, or the villas along the Brenta are wonderful in their own way. But if you find the crowds in Venice a problem, go off season.

Above all, accept no substitutes. And mistrust anyone who tells you there's anything remotely comparable to Venice west of Angkor Wat.

Treviso is close by, has canals, and is a nice place. But it's not Venice.

There is only one Venice.

Venice is a real gem, even with the crowds and congestion. If you can affort spending even one night there, you'll get to see how this gem literally sparkles at night. We had the good fortunate to spend 3 nights there and experienced how Venice completely transformed itself after the day trippers are gone.

The centre of Udine does look like Venice, though -- with a public building in the central square that looks just like the Doge's Palace, beached on terra ferma.

Kywood - Treviso advertises itself as a Venice in miniature. Even if that's overdoing it a bit, it is nevertheless one of the most attractive towns in Veneto.
