Venice Lido hotels???
My mom and I will be in Venice Sept. 21-23. I've not found any hotels available in old Venice at this time so I'm looking over at Venice Lido. There are boats departing Lido for Venice every five minutes so not a problem there. Everything I've looked at on Lido seems qaint and rather B&B-type. Has anyone stayed over there?

Stayed at Hotel des Bains on the Lido several years ago. They offer frequent service back and forth to Pza San Marco. It was rather expensive, but lovely.

I have also stayed at the Hotel Panada just off San Marco. It was quite reasonable and a fabulous location...small. I was with my then teenaged daughter; we enjoyed the proximity to the Piazza and evening strolls, quite different from the Lido!

Staying on the Lido offers a quiet and green refuge from Venice. There are buses running along the major routes, so once you get off the vaporetto, you can either walk to your hotel or take a bus ride.
We have stayed at Quattro Fontane. It is pricey and pretty. A recent addition has doubled available rooms; I'd ask to stay in the older, more charming section of the hotel.
Staying outside the city does put you at some remove from major sites.

I agree with a couple of the above comments that, if at all possible, you should stay in Venice. Try pathfinder.com, veniceworld.com, and initaly.com. On Lido, "the" hotel is the Excelsior, very expensive but a lovely, gracious, world class place. They offer free shuttle service to the city in their beautiful motor launches and have probably the best beach in Italy. Regardless of where you stay, check out portve.interb...s.html for some very good walking tours of the city. If all else fails, check the information office in the Venice train station when you arrive - almost guarantee they will find a room for you.
