Venice/Lido

We are spending two nights in Venice in July. We are trying to decide between two B&Bs - one on the island of Lido and one in Venice very close to the Rialto Bridge. This is our first trip to Venice. Any suggestions?

Hello cmorey, I would defintely stay in Venice proper versus on the Lido.

I think most Fodorites here will agree.

I agree with LoveItaly:) I know when we were there, it was nice to be close to our hotel if we needed to go back (usually that was because I bought too much and had to drop packages back at the room!).

Stay on Venice proper, not Lido :-)

Hi cm,

One more vote for staying in Venice.

The LIdo is a beach resort. You will have to take the vaporetto back and forth.

Since it's your first trip to Venice, and you only have two nights there, I'd choose Venice. Lido is a lovely resort town, but there's simply no comparison.

Also agreed. =) If you stay on the Lido, you will spend a lot of time going back and forth to the main island on the vaporetto. Enjoy! -- h.
