Venice: Liassidi Palace or Locanda Orseolo
After a conference in Vienna in March 2007, a friend and I are going to train down to Venice for 4 nights. The accommodation choices we've narrowed it down to are:
Liassidi Palace Locanda Orseolo La Calcina is out because of the check deposit thing (all our banking is online these days). Both will be charging the exact same rate for two doubles/single use (140 euros each per night, inc. breakfast and taxes). So...which would you go for? Both are well recommended on TA; LO is highly recommended here but few (that I've seen) Fodorite posts on Liassidi Palace. We want to lock down these rooms quickly, so looking for help ASAP! Thanks! |
Well, I haven't been to Liassidi Palace, so I can only add to the chorus of people who LOVE Locanda Orseolo. Personally, I would plan my trip to Venice around being sure that I could stay there!!

Thanks...to compare, here is the website for the Liassidi Palace:
www.liassidipalacehotel.com I'm leaning toward the LO, but I suspect my friend would prefer the LP because of its sumptuous public rooms. |
Liassidi Palace....is a little more out of the way from the main sights. There is an interesting little Icon museum in the immediate area...worth a quick visit if you stay there.
BUT Locanda Orseolo has such a fine reputation, that would be my choice!! |
I sent my friend the links to both hotel's web sites and he wants the Liassidi Palace...plus it turns out they can offer us rooms for 120 euro per night instead of 140 at LO. So we will probably go with Liassidi. No canal view (the LP's deluxe rooms with jacuzzi, canal view, etc. for that time of year start at 240 euro, we'd rather spend that on food, wine and shopping).
Before booking, I have to confirm with the LP that they have TWO rooms available, not just one. |
The Liassidi Palace in a nice hotel in a quieter area of Castello but not too far afield. We've walked past it several times and their courtyard looks lovely.
The San Zaccaria vaporetto stop as well as San Marco area are a short walk. We have enjoyed several meals at da Remigio nearby...can be a little pricey based on your selections but excellent excellent seafood and service. |
