Venice, Italy to Amalfi coast
Going to be taking a honeymoon trip to Italy this September. Whats the best way to go about staying in Venice for a few days then traveling to Amalfi Coast. Would like to stop in Rome for a day or two. We are trying to find out better places to stay while visiting and if there are any package deals that may help us? What are better/easiest ways of transportation? Thanks for any and all help

For that itinerary only train makes sense. There are high speed trains from Venice to Rome and Rome to Naples. From Naples you can take a local train to Sorrento and then a bus or taxi down the coast to the AC. Or a ferry from Naples or Sorrento to the smaller towns down the coast.
You don't need any packages but should get started on picking hotels.
You don't mention how much time you have for this trip - but with more details and a hotel budget people can make specific recos.

You can't take a ferry from Naples to the Amalfi Coast.
Your options are high speed rail to Rome with a connection to Salerno via Naples, then a ferry along the coast. This will involve almost a whole day of travel with connections. The last ferry leaves Salerno around 5.00pm in the high season.
If you haven't already booked then best get moving as September is one of the most popular months.

Im thinking around 10 days. Would we be better off going to Rome then traveling to Amalfi Coast on day 5 and saving Venice for another trip? I don't want to be rushed trying to see the details and only getting to spend 2 days at each place. As far as expenses for traveling and hotels I'm thinking around 5000 USD. Is that an appropriate budget?

You could do 5 nights Rome 5 nights Amalfi Coast which will make it a much less rushed trip. Venice is far away from the Amalfi Coast - I've done the travel there and back a few times but not on a 10 day honeymoon.

$5000USD equates to $500 - 450 euro per day for hotels, food, travel, sightseeing? That may be a little light especially as you are leaving hotel bookings so late. The budget options may be limited.

Okay yes it is a good budget in that case. Fly in and out of Rome if you can - or into Rome and out of Naples (but this could cost more).
Honeymoon-type hotels book out quickly but check availability in Positano at Palazzo Murat, Le Sirenuse or Covo de Saraceni. They are pricey but this is a special trip.

I agree, it is a special trip. We do not have to have the best 5 star hotel but would still like something nice. Plan on spending more time out of the hotel. Do most places accept credit cards and/or travelers checks (restaurants, shops, sight seeing tours, transportation, ect.)

Travellers cheques are a thing of the past. Bring credit cards and an ATM card to take out cash as needed. Some restaurants etc prefer cash or may be cash only. Let your bank know when and where you are going to prevent their fraud dep't from blocking your cards.
If you run into the dreaded DCC (dynamic currency conversion) insist on paying in euro. This is sometimes offered when you pay by credit card, the offer of "convenience" to pay in your own currency. You will end up paying more in fees.
Have fun!
