Venice into slovenia for 2 days and back
 

we cannot get a hire car company that allows us to go into slovenia so I am thinking of going into Bled/Lub by train then picking a car up in Trieste. Going 9th May and then to Umbria.Any suggestions. Can come back and pick car up anywhere.

I believe it is possible to hire a car to take into Croatia at Trieste
airport . but go to

We ran into that problem 2 yrs ago. No rental cos. would rent us a car to take into Croatia and if my memory serves me right, we had the problem going from Italy into Slovenia. We reversed the trip, went to Slevenia, rented a car and then went to Venice and Vicennes and returned the car inslovenia. Two yrs ago we rented again in Slovenia and drove into Croatia. The rental rates in Italy are high also. check Auto Europe.

Croatia is no good to us. Unfortunately the trip in Italy is already booked at Apartments in Umbria and Tuscany and only window is 9th till 14th May. Intractable companies due to need to dropoff car in Milan. I have read where cars can be picked up at Triest Airport driven into Slovenia etc. I cannot find a Car Company in Triest that will allow this.Eurolease was our best option but would mean a trip back to Rome to pick the car up.

You have to go to Koper, about 30 miles from Trieste, and rent there. It cost me 30E for a taxi. But,why not train to Ljubjana.
