OMG this is freaky!! Of all places I would never expect snow in Venice. How often do they get snow? Is this a first?

Thanks for the pics.

P_M, no, it's not unusual. It snows quite often in the winter there, although probably not often as heavily as it has this week.

I didn't know that, I learn something new on this forum every day. :-)

Thanks, just beautiful pictures! We recognized the places in Venice. We're having well over a foot of snow today in Winchester, VA.

It snowed for a few hours the last time I was in Venice in early March 2007--didn't stick. The day before was sunny and we'd worn our jackets open.

I have beautiful photos taken by a good friend who use to live in Venice when it snowed..I should have them blow up and framed. Yes, it does sometimes snow in Venice! Venice is in the Region of Veneto which is just south of the Alpi..I think my various friends in Veneto (but not the City of Venice) are no doubt having snow now but I will find out when I call them.

it shouldn't be too surprising that Venice gets snow as you can see the Dolomites from torcello.
