Venice in October
 

I'm considering Venice in early October- but concerned about flooding. Is that a bad time to go?

Hi Carolyn- <BR>I was there last October, and there was a little flooding, but certainly nothing bad. They put up these little "brodges" so that pedestrians can walk over the water. The weather was varied- some rain, some clouds, some warm days when I just wore a t-shirt and pants (no sweater). Have fun!

Carolyn, <BR> <BR>We were in Venice in early October, 1986 and there was no flooding. Weather was sunny; in the 60's & low 70's during the day; and mid 50's to mid-60's at night. Wore light clothing. But needed a light jacket for the evenings. <BR> <BR>Loved Venice!!! Can't believe we've let 15 years go by since we've been there!! Have a wonderful trip!! <BR> <BR>Karen

We were there last Oct and are planning to be there again this Oct. As mentioned above - flooding was not severe - suggest you take a small, travel umbrella and waterproof your Doc Martins. This year we are taking very light rain pants and jackets as we walked a lot - rain or shine. <BR>Have fun.

Carolyn, <BR>Acqua alta as a season is known to come as early as October & as late as April, but those are extremes. (As a general rule, late November through January is probably the worst of it, but amazingly, the city & tourism do go on. Folks wear galoshes, hotels issue rubber boots for a fee & wooden platforms go up everywhere to elevate people as they traverse the city on foot.) <BR> <BR>Please don't worry too much & go have a delightful time. <BR>BC

My limited meteorological understanding is that aqua alta depends both on the tide (high) as well as on winds, it's not flooding caused by just rainfall. I've been there too in early Oct and have not experienced, but last time I was there, aqua alta occurred just a few days after I left.
