venice in march or april?
I am planning to go to Venice in March (for off season rates). Is this a mistake...need suggestions for hotels too.

Here's a web site for weather in Venice (from the washington post). It states the average temp. is 47. That's pretty cool IMO for the outdoor walking you'll be doing. Also, it won't be warm enough to enjoy sitting at the outdoor cafes. However, if this is the only time you'll get to Venice, then I say go! Pack warmly and you'll be fine.

I was there in may and LOVED IT!

http://www.weatherpost.com/longterm/...nice_italy.htm

As for hotel suggestions, I stayed at the Hotel Galleria just next to the Accademia bridge. If interested, do a search on this site on "My LONG story" which has the hotels phone/fax/ and email. Paid about $87 per night.

Ciao!

April may be a complete surprise with some sunshine and intermittent showers. Dress in layers, and take and wear a long raincoat with a hood, so you are not fooling with an umbrella. I have been there in April as well as late October. It is actually more fun when there are NO CROWDS, even though you are dressing so warmly. We were so cold once we hopped from cafe to cafe, a little wine here, a little wine there . . .

Go, enjoy, prepare to walk on the boards for the aqua alta if it rains a lot. It is truly one of the most fun adventures you can have.

Stay at the BAuer Grunwald, and ask for Paolo at the concierge desk and tell him Donna from Chicago says hi. (to further clue him in, remind him of the five photogenic ladies . . . he has the photo in his desk) Maybe you'll get a discount. It is a wonderful hotel.
Steve, was in Venice 3 yrs ago last week in March. It was cool and damp, but luckily no rain and no flooding. It was fabulous, no crowds, almost deserted St. Mark's square! Stayed at the Paganelli which we found charming and perfectly comfortable. Moderately priced, facing the lagoon, just 2 short blocks from St. Mark's Square. You can find it in Fordor's Italy. fax 041/523-9267.
