Venice in February

Planning a trip to Venice end of February, how bad is the weather then, celebrating a 50th so don't want to change the dates. Have been to Venice in May, looking forward to returning.

Was there in late Jan last year - weather was in 50s and sunny but i think it may be cooler typically

If it's Carnival then you're in for a big treat - colorfully clad folks in fancy costumes and masques everywhere.

Carnevale! From Feb 13th to 24th in 2009. The shops are all decorated, concerts everywhere, people (especially kids) walking around in constume -- its really nice.

I was there in mid Feb a few years ago and it was in the 50s and kind of gloomy. Kind of like foggy London. But that only added to the mysteriousness and charm, really. There were no lines to get into anywhere.

Carl Sandburgh wrote a poem about the fog in Venice (i believe)

"the fog comes in
on little cat feet"

I have been to Venice most of the times in winter including Jan and Feb. More likely to be cold and a bit on dumper side (but usually above freezing point) or you may be lucky as PalQ. It can vary especially last years not necessarily very cold always.

The carnival ends on 24th Jan. During it, venice in general and especially San Marco area is so crowded ( I hear, I have always been there before or after). Hotel prices the highest and good one are already pretty full usually so if you don't have the rersevation already, I hope you will go after the carnival.

I would love to see carnival but will be arriving on Feb 25th for 4 nights and do have reservations at Hesparia, I like small out of the way places.

We were in Venice late January this year. It was dark and gloomy the whole time we were there. :(

Mild winter weather but humid. A trench coat with scarf and gloves kept me warm. Hubby had on medium light northface windbreaker.

I've been a few times in Feb and loved that there were so few people compared to other months (never been during Carnival though). I have experienced warm (mid 50-60's) and cooler (mid 30's-40's) but have never thought that the weather effected my visit in a negative way.

Enjoy your trip!

Venice in May is pure magic. End of February, not so. If wet and cold are your thing, then what's not to love? Consider packing with clothing layers in mind and include silk long-johns if you plan to be out-n-about all day long.

On a warmer note, I've seen 60 degrees and sun in February. The warmest Carnivale ever. Lasted three days. Then it went sub zero. Layers, layers, layers, I tell ya, cause you never know with the weather these days.

Be sure to check the forecast the day before your departure. Someone might respond if you email your hotel for the forecast.
