Venice: how to spend 1 night?

Would this be enough time for Venice. I heard it's a hassle(and takes a long time) to get from the Lucia Station to the island. Is it true?

What's the best way to spend 1 night other than island hopping;)

Venice is amazing to see whether it is for 1 night or 1 week. If you have the opportunity to go, you must! First,if it is opened, take a look in St.Mark's Cathedral-this will take an hour or so. Then, take a gondola ride and end your evening in St.Mark's Square sitting at one of the outside bars listening to live music drinking a glass of wine or cafe latte. Get up early and just walk around and see as much as you can. You won't regret it.

You catch a vaporetto outside the train station. It's not a hassle at all. You'd need to know from your hotel what is the route number, and what is the closest stop where you should get off. You just buy a ticket and get on the boat!

I would not island hop, you don't have time imo, but rather stay in the central part of the city. I'd just wander around and see the main sights... San Marcos plaza, Rialto bridge, Bridge of Sighs, etc.

The train station (Venezia S. Lucia) will dump you right smack dab onto the Grand Canal, and you can either board the vaporetto or walk directly to Piazza San Marco (follow the crowds).

It's the airport (Marco Polo) that's a bit of a hassle to reach, as it's on the mainland (in Mestre). The train travels over a causeway directly to Venice and is very, very convenient.

You'll have the first evening, and pretty much all of the next day to enjoy Venice. Not enough, but it will be fun. The islands of Venice proper are so close together that you needn't think of it island hopping, as you can get everywhere on foot.

re "island hopping" I was assuming our poster meant Murano, Burano, etc.

And I agree with you, suze, absolutely no point in heading out to Murano or Burano on such a short visit.

One night in Venice is a bummer.I would find a nice place to eat with atmosphere on one of the canals sit outside eat and watch all the sights.Travel safe and have a great trip.

I fear that you are terribly misinformed about Venice.

The San Lucia station is in Venice proper.

One night is better than a daytrip, but it is certainly selling Venice short.

There is much to do, both day and night.

I suggest that you start by looking up Venice under "Destinations".

As others have already clarified (hopefully) the San Lucia train station couldn't be easier for arrival. The "hassle and takes a long time" must be referring to either the airport, or maybe the station at Mestre?

If I could have one night in Venice again, I would definitely find a nice restaurant to enjoy a lesiurely dinner and then I would head to St. Mark's Square and sit at Florians and enjoy the music. It is magical in the evening and one of my favorite memories of Venice.

This will be my 2nd time to Paris. 1st time to both Zurich and Italy. Decided to spend the last 3 days in Paris still since my 1st trip gave me great memories.
