Venice Hotels: Has anyone stayed at the following?

Hi All,

I have been posting and researching, and everyone has been very helpful so far - thanks! I am planning our tour of Italy for May. Venice is our first stop (checking in May 3rd & checking out May 6), and I have narrowed it to the following hotels that have availability and fit our budget:

Ca' San Vio
www.casanvio.com
photos of room look nice, 130 or 140 Euro

Ca' S. Trovaso
www.casantrovaso.com
more residential area 120 - 135 Euro

Hotel Riva
www.hotelriva.it
photos on website look nice. Reviews on venere.com are a bit mixed.

Ca' Fontanea
www.cafontanea.it
130 Euro

Hotel Villa Rosa
www.villarosahotel.com
140 Euro

I think I may book directly with one of these hotels as venere.com says most of these are unavailable. Please let me know if you are familiar with any of the above and if you would recommend them.

Thank you!!

I recall hearing good things about Hotel Villa Rosa when doing research for my trip to venice in June 2006. I stayed however at La Calcina which was excellent and I was glad I chose that hotel. have you gone to tripadvisor.com to read reviews and ratings for each of the hotels you have listed? I've found tripadvisor very helpful in choosing hotels! good luck! Venice is amazing.... I hope to go back one day!

Thanks for your reply Liza Marie. I have been checking reviews on Tripadvisor.com as well. It is helpful. I actually sent a request to La Calcina earlier today as well. Hopefully I will hear back from them soon. Thanks again!

Ca San Vio and Trovaso are virtually same area (Dorsoduro), so one is not more residential than the other.

Ca Fontanea is practically 'off' Venice, it's so far north of everything. (north end of Venice, beyond the train station, etc).
