Venice Hotels for 40 Euros, Double!
 

Recently booked a modern hotel on the Lido in Venice for 40 euros a night double.

This is standard fare for the Lido in the off-season for beaches.

And though the Lido is a 20 minute or so boat trip from San Marco it also offers lots of space and if driving parking at the hotel.

So better to stay in Venice proper but if you want to save tons of money check out the Lido!

i can see that the Lido can be a good budget choice for people who are on a 3rd or 4th visit, &/or who are staying for more than a few days.

i do feel that visitors who fall outside those two categories would be better off staying in Venice proper, particularly in wonted when the day length is so much less.

Staying another Christmas, for a single room, I had a choice of, all in Venice proper,
1. 3* hotel at €50.- ( double was €70) - venere.com review was 8 out of 10, in Cannaregio near Casino
2. 3* at € 40.- near Rialto ( I have stayed there once, also in Christmas time, room was small - no surprise - but a large and nice breakfast room with a balcony on a canal that was very nice.
3. 2* at €30.- in Cannaregio but close to Rilato end.

I could have taken either 1 or 2 but decided to go with a bit of extreme and have finally reserved 3. €30 per night is the cheapest I will have ever paid in Venice. I have paid up to € 280 per night ( low season at luxurious 4* hotel, 50m2 with 3 balconies on the Grand Canal) but am going budget more and more lately so that I can travel more often. And I have found out I can be fine with very budget places especially as long as I'm alone. Since I'm staying for 4 nights this time, with the money I saved I will pay a multi-course dinner at a 4* hotel on Christmas Eve when it's not obvious to find a open/available place.

I have had Christmas in Venice 4 - 5 times so far and can tell the rates at many hotels are the lowest or close to, during that time until just before the new years eve. I did consider Lido when I started travelling to Venice about 15 years ago and have returned almost every year since then, sometimes 2 or 3 times a year but have always stayed in Venice proper. Nothing wrong to stay in Lido for some but finally not my choice. I do like wandering around the night of Venice until around mid night so staying in Venice proper works better.

Hotel Reiter is one there are many others

ok location pretty La Ville Del Lido best out there for me.

10 minute boat ride to Venice proper makes it a pretty

isolated experience though...

Prefer budgets in Dorsoduro though...no expensive boat rides

I agree staying in venice proper vs. lido (especially during the winter time since it's kind of a lonely there that time of the year). Dorsoduro or Castello have the cheaper hotels that time of the year since they are at the farther ends of the island.
