Venice Hotels- any recommendations?

Can anyone recommend any hotels in Venice?

I will be travelling there with my wife and it is our first time in Venice.

We are looking for something romantic. Our budget is about $150 USD per night.

You may be new to the board, but you really should do a search on Venice hotels before asking such a well-answered question. I assure you, you will find dozens of excellent recommendations on hotels, sights and restaurants. Also, you'll find many links to websites that specialize in Venice hotels. Good Luck.

I’m an avid fan of Karen Brown’s guidebooks when seeking assistance for hotels in Italy. There are several other suggestions besides the one below, however they are either on the edge or outside of your $150 price range. I think you may enjoy this place.

Italy: Charming Bed & Breakfasts, by Karen Brown --- her website can be found at:
http://www.karenbrown.com/italy/index.html

HOTEL AI DUE FANALI
Hosts: Marina Feron family
Santa Croce 946
Venice 30135, Italy
Tel: (041) 718344, Fax: (041) 718490
E-mail: [email protected]
16 rooms with private bathrooms, 4 apartments
Lire 180,000-360,000 double B&B
280,000-600,000 daily per apartment
Breakfast only
Closed January, Credit cards: all major
English spoken well, Region: Veneto

(Per the description on the website) ---

The Due Fanali is a perfectly efficient, family-run hotel housed in a 12th-century palazzo in a lovely square next to the 12th-century San Simeon church with its original Tintoretto painting. Extra care has been taken in the selection of appropriate antiques for the guestrooms, reception area, and breakfast room. The soft ambiance is that of an elegant yet warm home, accentuated by lovely Oriental carpets and rich-cream draperies. Breakfast is taken either out in the "garden" in front of the hotel or up in the delightful third-floor veranda, under the open terrace, with its superb view over the square to the Grand Canal.

If I may steal “jane’s” words from a post of several months ago --- June of last year to be exact. I was gathering information and hotel suggestions from the forum. Ended up with a different selection, as ‘La Calcina’ was fully booked. (I opted for cheaper accommodations --- ‘Hotel Galleria’ is a good value, but not necessarily someplace I’d suggest when seeking a romantic spot).
Besides "Jane" other contributors on this site have had positive comments for this hotel.

LA CALCINA (tel: 041-5206466 / fax: 041-5227045 / email: [email protected]).

“I must take some time here to lavish praise on this wonderful little hotel. We had room #3, which had 2 large windows looking out on the wide-open vista of the Zattere, the Giudecca Canal and Giudecca Island across the way. Along with this gorgeous sight to greet us every morning, we enjoyed the best and most abundant breakfasts of our trip in La Calcina's charming breakfast room. However, the best part was really the large floating terrace in front, which was bathed in sunlight from sunrise to sunset every day. We luxuriated on this deck every afternoon, sipping cocktails and soaking up all the incredible atmosphere which only Venice has to offer. Our room was immaculate and the staff was wonderful - I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.”
