After researching on fodors and checking reviews on trip advisor, I've narrowed down my choices to 3.

1. Locanda Ca Dei Dogi
2.Locanda Barbarigo
3. Locanda San Barnaba

I would appreciate it if some one with first hand experience would share their experiences.

Sort of a basic guest house though

Be VERY careful to look at a map for example

San Barnaba is marketed as a "Venice" Hotel

deceptively with many fake reviews on "TripAdvertizer"

when it is in fact 10 miles away...

there are a couple

it is also in the Dorsoduro it would be ok location

not as good as the other.

Have satyed in the Boscolo Hotel Dei Dogi it was awesome

There is a Dei Dogi BB on the Lido I think

would not stay there too far boat ride away.

A few years ago we spent a few days at the Residenza Cannaregio. It is a good 10-15 minutes walk from San Marco, but it has been correctly stated on this board that if you don't get lost walking in Venice, you have not really seen the city. We liked it for its quiet and did not mind the walk. There is a vaporetto stop near by and we used our passes to good purpose to get around from there.

Our room was very nice, if a little dark. The included breakfast buffet is very good and includes unlimited amounts of superb coffee.

The hotel has its own water gate so that there never need be walking lugging luggage behind one. The staff is exceptionally nice and they were extremely helpful to us, as we had not been in Venice in 15 years.

The position of the Locanda San Barnaba in Venice is OK. About 20 minutes walk to San Marco, 15 or 20 to Rialto, 10 to Academe, and just around the corner from Campo Margerita, which is active and fun with bars and places to eat. And it is easy to find, with no bridges to cross from the Ca' Rezzonico vap stop.

If you search for Franco's thread about Venice, you will find many good tips about lodging.

I don't know of the ones you name, but La Calcina is a favorite of many. We stayed at the Hotel Riva* and liked it a lot, especially for its location at the confluence of two small canals. No elevator, so try to get room 1.

I've not stayed at any of the hotels you list, but I've heard of all of them and they are all in Venice--not sure what that other poster meant. In fact I've tried to reserve a room at the San Barnaba on a couple of occasions, and they were already fully booked both times. That area is, in my opinion, the best location in Venice.

I've stayed at La Calcina, mentioned by the poster above, and liked it. I don't like to be too near San Marco or right by Rialto, but that is just me. Everyone has a different favorite part of Venice--for good reasons in each case.
