Excellent 3-star near the Accadamia bridge so ~10 mins. walk from San Marcos.

We were just at Locanda Orseolo in late March and there is no elevator. However, Matteo, Francesco, et. al. would not consider having you carry up your bags yourself. However, if you have trouble walking up and down stairs, it could be an issue.

The rooms were updated when we were there and they are beautiful. Gorgeous faux painting on the walls. Each room also has a different scene from a book, opera, etc. painted on the wall. Luxurious drapery and Murano glass chandeliers in each room.

Our kids stayed in a room on the courtyard side and we were on the canal side. I think both rooms were the same size. They were the smallest room we stayed in in Italy, but definitely the nicest and most luxurious.

The family (Barbara, Matteo, Francesco and Bruno) are wonderful and exceptional hosts. They truly love what they do and it shows. The breakfasts are superb. As Matteo explains, "Cooking is my passion!" A very complete buffet along with made to order omelettes, eggs and crepes, as well as Barbara's made to order cappuccinos.

All their restaurant recommendations were awesome, including the little sandwich shop just to the left of Corte Zorzi. (It didn't look that great to me, so we didn't go until our last day. What a big mistkae they had the best panini!! Next time I will listen to all recommendations).

One would not be disappointed staying here. I only wish there was a place like this in every city.

jgg, thank you for that nice hotel review of the Locanda Orseolo and for informing us that there is no elevator. I sure wish I could've stayed there. It's going to be next to impossible to secure a booking these days unless one books way in advance.
