Venice Hotels
I have 3 hotel recommendations from a colleague and fellow traveler:
Locanda Novo, Cannaregio 4529, SS Apostoli. Locanda Leon Bianco, Cannaregio 5629 (Corte Leon Bianco). Hotel Galleria, Dorsoduro Accademia 878a. Does anybody know anything about these or have other recommendations? It looks like I may be in Venice for 4 or 5 nights. Grazie. |
I cannot speak from personal experience of the hotels, but the Hotel Galleria is more central than the hotels in Cannaregio.

No personal experience either, but Galleria is a wonderful location and often gets favorable comments.
My personal pick is Pensione La Calcina www.lacalcina.com (I've been to Venice only twice and stayed there both times). |
I stayed at Rialto Hotel... on the Grand Canal and at the foot of the Rialto Bridge. The canal front room had 'privacy shutters' and also special windows that block out all noise if you don't want to wake up early ! Windows are large enough to sit in and take in the scenery ! Was fun to watch the gondolas unloading their goods ! Check out their 'specials' page on their web site. The water taxi stops in front of the hotel ! Great location ! http://www.rialtohotel.com/

We recently had a discussion here on Locanda Leon Bianco-it is in Cannaregio-centuries old bldg. right on the Grand Canal-with heavy wooden original doors, locks and floors-very charming. You need to get one of the 3 rooms of 8 that look right out onto the Gr. Canal. And it gets very good reviews on tripadvisor-no t.v. in rooms though. www.leonbianco.it
La Calcina is an excellent choice in Dorsoduro, www.lacalcina.com. You can dine canalside here. Also, literally a 2 min. walk to San Marco on the west side is the 3 star San Moise-smack on a gondola route-antiques, beautiful Venetian furnishings-some doubles quite small-but the superior rooms have fabulous views of bridges over the canal and are luxurious and spacious. Both on venere.com and tripadvisor.com, San Moise gets uniformly good reviews-from their copious breakfast buffet where you can watch the gondoliers- to the helpfulness of their staff. Their public spaces look to be quite elegant-this hotel has the authentic Venetian look, in a 16th cent. bldg. www.sanmoise.it. As for the Hotel Galleria, it is the only one star hotel right on the Grand Canal, near the Ponte del'Accademia. If you can get one of the rooms on the canal, you've got a real bargain-but the rooms are quite small, I understand. |
