Venice Hotels
Can anyone recommend a moderately priced hotel in Venice? Someplace that's clean, central and not a rip off?
|
Hi,
What do you mean by moderate, central? Do you want ensuite facilities? AC? Breakfast? Canal view? Have you done a text search on "Venice and Hotel"? |
We were in Venice in Nov of 2001 (exchange rate different now) and stayed at the Hotel Ateneo. Breakfast included, on the canal (no view), clean and it cost about $150/night. My understanding is all hotels in Venice are older, rather musty but we found our hotel quite charming. As far as central - Venice is so small, a maze of winding streets where you are bound to get lost, but you are always close to something! You didn't ask, but a great restaurant - food and price was alla Madonna near the Rialto bridge (thanks to the Fodorites who gave me that tip!)
Enjoy! |
Hi
My wife and I went to Venice in June and we stayed at the Hotel Continental for 150 € pr night. We had two big windows facing Canal Grande and that was nice of course :-) Well, I have posted a review of the hotel on my homepage www.gardkarlsen.com. On the page you will also find a trip report and pictures from our stay there :-) Regards Gard Stavanger, Norway |
We recently stayed in a newly renovated one bedroom/one bath apartment in the San Polo area near the Rialto Bridge. We paid 120 euro per night thru venicerentals.com.
Don't know if an apartment interests you, but we really enjoyed having so much more space and convenineces. Venice Rentals staff was also like having a personal concierge. |
We stayed at Hotel Galleria in May and paid 95 Euro a night. Great location!

Look up the web site for the American Hotel. It is very Italian and not very American. Clean, nice rooms. Off the beaten path on a lovely canal. Very close to the Guggenheim.
|
I have to agree with the American Hotel - it's a great place to stay in and there is nothing American about it. And the best part? It's on a quiet street away from the hustle and bustle. I paid about 175 in late May last year. Check it out. IT's worth it.

We stayed at the Galleria mentioned above in 1999. Great location at the Academia bridge for walking all over, friendly staff, nice view of the grand canal at breakfast in your room. Rooms are small and modest with small WC and shower, but for amount of time we spent there was just fine.

We like "Doni Pensione." Under $100 (or close) for two. Faded glory but clean, comfy, friendly.
Walk 5 minutes to Saint Marks but off the tourist path. On a canal. |
My family and I stayed at Locanda Al Leon last month and found it comfortable and charming. It was clean, quiet, centrally located very near Piazza San Marco, and moderately priced (about 130 Euros for a quad room and breakfast). Friendly staff, good A/C, and sparkling clean tile bath with lots of towels. The exterior is ancient but the interior is recently renovated. We booked directly by e-mail. Their web site is www.hotelalleon.com.

Have used these hotels for many trips since 1981, ALA, LA FENICE, DO POZZI which are three star hotels all located close to the Pza S. Marco. Have and am currently using the four star SATURNIA which we will return this November. Richard of LaGrange Park, IL>. Consider all very good hotels.... |
