Check out BW Villa Mabapa.
Not on grand canal but might be interesting. Much cheaper on sale through expedia right now, around 200 per night.
|
"Villa Mabapa", is this hotel not only located on the Grand Canal but also is on the Island of Lido?

I have read on this thread a few times Hotel Rialto(3-star?)has a few rooms with a balcony over the G.C.. Sounded like those balcony gave great view.

hotel galleria www.hotelgalleria.it has a large room with a canal view (right at the accademy bridge)for 140! RR

If you can snag Room # 402 at the Rialto, go for it. When we booked (about 10 months ahead) asking for confirmation of two rooms with balcony, they could only promise us one. But in fact we got two -- room #408 which we had had before, a pleasant room with a tiny balcony, and room #402, the best room in the house, with a large sitting area (five or six people can sit around for cocktails)and a large balcony (three sets of doors out to it). It couldn't be more grand -- and way under your budget!!
On the other hand, they only have a couple of rooms with balcony and only one anything like #402. It may be too late for them to confirm that.

It might be late to book from APril..however you could try La Calcina. It is on Guidecca Canal. Lots of posts about this hotel appear on this site. It's a three star. We had the front view room with terrace for $175 euro. It's a bargain.

Just wanted to let you know I just recieved an availability confirmation for La Calcina and they wanted me to send a check for 740.00 to secure the room. Needless to say I am booking elsewhere.
|
Shelly - I would check to see that you got that dollar amount correct. We stayed at La Calcina about a year and a half ago and our rooms were about $120 apiece for two doubles and $85 for a single. And I think we only sent $ for one night's deposit.

$750 doesn't sound right. Did you call and talk to them in person?

Suzan the Marconi has one, possibly 2 rooms with balcony right on the Grand Canal near the Rialto bridge. A friend from Paris stayed there & loved it. Price will fit your budget.
|
Jane,
We have two rooms for our family and they wanted two nights payment which is why the amount was so high.
|
For Shelley, That's really too bad (your decision/their request) for your family because Pensione La Calcina is a fantastic place to stay in Venice!!

I have stayed there twice and made reservations once I was in Europe with only a charge card to hold the rooms. But it has gotten quite popular recenty (Fodors?) so possibly this allows them to request more upfront.

I'm curious if they are the only hotel with this type of policy, or do others in Venice have similar procedures?

Where are you going to book instead? What kind of deposit do they require?
