Venice Hotel Suggestions Needed.

Traveling to Italy in August, looking to stay in Venice for 3 nights.

Any moderate priced suggestions (100-135 Euros/night). Not looking to break the bank, but would like to be in a safe neighborhood.

Thanks.

Just stayed at the Selvadego. Right off San Marco, connected with the Monaco on the Grand Canal, which is where you check-in, check-out and have breakfast. Best hotel room on my most recent trip. Paid 128 euros a night for a very spacious single room with double bed.

Wow, wasn't familar with the Selvadego, just saw the reviews at tripadvisor.
Sounds like a great find, and the price more than reasonable for the amenities and location. thanks

Since you are planning so far ahead, you should have your choice of rooms.

Try the following hotels...they should be in your price range:
* Hotel Flora
* Hotel Ala
* Pensione La Cucina
* Antico Doge

Good Luck!

Carol

Going from the train station is easy, and emerging from the train station into the lights, water, and colors of Venice, is memorable in itself.
Take the #1 vaporetto; it's a slow ride, but a wonderful introduction to the Grand Canal and Venice. Have your camera handy. Get out at the San Marco stop. Have manageable luggage.

I have a long file on Venice; if you'd like to see it, email me at

We recently stayed at the Albergo Guerrato right near the Rialto Bridge. We paid 120/night in cash. The room was nice and the service was great. I have a short review in my trip report... Here is a link to their website, as well:

Good luck! - h.

Take a look at www.lacalcina.com

I absolutely love this hotel! Book early as it is (deservedly) popular. Beautiful rooms, nice breakfast included, rooftop terrace you can reserve, convenient to a vaporetto stop. Cool, clean, peaceful oasis.

Oh and getting to La Calcina from the train station is very easy. Take a vaporetto to the Zaterre stop and walk a very short way to the hotel (they will provide you will exact instructions for # of boat route).

Great hlocke1... I too stayed at the Albergo Guerrato. For some reason I just loved this little hotel. I decided when I returned I wouldn't mention it on this board (since it seems to get very little press). But now you've posted it! The only other hotel I've stayed at is La Calcina - but for some reason I liked the Albergo G. a bit more... it's not nicer per se so its hard to put my finger on it. It was just so cozy, All that said, it is Rick Steve's hotel in Venice. So he manages to book it full 50 nights of the summer.

We spent 2 nights at Locanda San Trovaso. Mark(?) was friendly and very helpful, the location was quiet, and we had a nice stroll to San Marcos. HTH.

Adam-what you might not realize is that the low season in Venice and Rome IS August, therefore, you can get some great hotel deals for quite a bit less than your price range (in fact, I think anything over 100E in Venice in August, single in a double room is overly expensive-unless you really want to go that route). When you look at your various options on the hotel/locanda websites, make sure and check what "special offers for July and Aug" are listed-or email them directly-they can be as much as 50E less, in some instances.

For example, I'm renting a 2 bedroom apartment in Venice in August, with air conditioning, free cell phone to use while there, washing machine HUGE kitchen (not that I'll need it!) with many windows looking out on churches, rooftops and a bit of the Grand Canal, for only 90E/nt. And that rate, I might add, was below their already lowered rate for Aug.-I made a counter-offer, and the owners accepted.

Dear Spygirl, What is the name of that apartment please? It sounds wonderful! Also adamdj, I can't think of any truly unsafe place in Venice! Just take normal precautions and you should be fine. Any comments??

these have been great suggestions. i have looked into many of the hotels and many seem to have availability.

spygirl: i will be traveling with my wife, so we are in the market for a "double room," unless i get in trouble ,

wondering if you could send me the info of the apartment you are renting?

[email protected]

thanks everyone for your continued help!

Do I take Caroline's posts to mean that finding a hotel in Venice for this September may be difficult?

I forgot to add, adamdj, I second very vigorously what Donco said about safety-this is one place where you don't have to worry too much about that-(bearing in mind there is no such thing as 100% safe-all parts of Venezia are pretty high up on the safety scale-particularly now, as Italy is at the highest threat level- security all over the country, in many different ways, has been stepped up).

They are EVEN cracking down on the purse-snatchers-I read just a couple of weeks ago that they nabbed one on the vaporetto- a citizen actually held the thief until the police arrived. But the problem there with purse-snatching is far less than in Rome, that's for sure.

Adamdj, Donco-I'll have to give you a rain check on that answer-but later on, in the not too distant future, I'm sure such information will be forthcoming! (remember also, this is August-it's quite a bit more the rest of the year, -my point being, as August is low season, it is a month to try bargaining-never hurts to ask-and I do like the Italians- I ask for a "sconto" (discount) on EVERYTHING).

P.S. What really sold me on this one was the free cell phone use (free local, free incoming international) even though I'm going to attempt to use one of those MOBAL phones elsewhere!
