We stayed in the AL GAMBERO HOTEL on Calle dei Fabbri in 1999. The hotel had recently been remodeled and baths and rooms were nice. It is located midway between San Marco and Rialto Bridge. This is 6 year old info, but the hotel is probably still nice.

Gotta admit....the apartment one poster had sounded like a killer deal. It does get hot in the summer there and some places have no a/c. We had to beg for a portable unit on an earlier trip in 1996. Luckily our Al Gambero stay was in October.

Wow, I wish this post had come up a little earlier. After searching the forum for Venice hotels and not finding anything great in my price range, I spent an entire day with my head in venere.com, looking at room after room with that freaky Venetian palace decor. I'm still a little woozy.

Look at http://www.ryanairhotels.com .
La Forcola Hotel, a 3* hotel with A/C, has some good deals for August, when I've looked before, on that site. This is particularly true if your dates are in the Sunday - Thursday range.

You could also try the hotel site directly:

cmpenniman : yes, I think finding a hotel for this September may be difficult. For our June trip I booked in October & still didn't get the room I wanted. Get on to it !!
