Venice Hotel recommendation...

I have checked so many resources and still don't know what hotel to book in Venice. I would like to stay under $500 a night. Where would you stay? Thank you!

PS: I will be visiting at the end of August

socialworker Jul 18th, 2008 11:14 AM

HI--do you mean Aug. '08? If so, at mid-July w/o an existing reservation, your choices will be limited by availability, thus minimizing your choosing dilemma. :) We liked the Marconi very much and it definitely fits your price category.

I do mean Aug 08, I know its short notice, but we just decided to go. Thanks!

www.lacalcina.com is a very nice place and WAY under that price, if available.

We really enjoyed the Bisanzio (a few blocks from St. Mark's and down an alley), but we didn't stay in a regular room, we had a "family room" which was around the corner from the main hotel. Small rooms, but beautifully designed (modern Italian decor). This was 10 years ago, but we have several friends who have stayed there since and liked it.

I booked a room at Hotel Galleria for 115 eu a night - my trip is in early Oct. I heard they book up fast but it may be worth a try. I read good things about it on this site.

I would start with www.venere.com, and see what is available at this point.

Then I would check reviews and/or come back here with choices.

Have you tried the Hotel Ala? I stayed there with my sister a few years ago and it was fantastic... we got a beautiful room with a canal view for only about 150 Euros. (It's a Best Western, but we didn't even find out until we looked at their stationery... there's nothing "chainy" about it.)

http://www.hotelala.it/ You can check availability online.

hi gg,

if yoursearch this forum for Venice, you should come up with a very recent trip report from someone who stayed in a lovely sounding hotel in san polo district.

there are also other choices that regularly crop up here which should also appear there.

regards, ann

Check out Al Ponte Antico by the same people who brought you Locanda Orseolo.

tuscanlifeedit Jul 18th, 2008 09:08 PM

The prices at the Hotel Ala (independently owned, and sister hotel to the... is it the Residenza Accademia, or something similar? Too late at night for me...) are considerable higher that 150 euros, but do go for one of their nicer rooms with a balcony. It should be within your budget.

Had clients that like Al Ponte Antico.

Although it is small and probably booked, I liked the pictures and review of Oltre Il Giardino that someone recently posted.

You can start with the places recommended here, and do look at venere.com to see what is available for your dates.

Oh, Hotel Flora is running a dollars equal euros special for the summer I think. It is a nice hotel in a good location. Check it out.

Hotel Flora is nice. I also like

Frankly, at this point in time you might be better served to hop on the hotel booking sites and find out want is available and then return with a list of what you can get. Then get a suggestion from those available. With no idea if they are available the most popular hotels suggested here will probably go early.

try www.venere.com

Starwood also has a few higher end hotels in Venice. www.starwood.com

Stayed at the Metropole. Highly recommend. Near San Marco on Grand Canal. Check there website- I think it is in your price range- have a great trip.

Suggest you check web site of Hotel Basilea, a small place not far from the railway station and on a quiet side canal. We have stayed there twice and found it to be clean, safe, and convenient --

goddesstogo Jul 19th, 2008 06:17 AM

We loved, loved, loved the Hotel Antiche Figure. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the canal and it was very quiet and beautiful.

I believe the hotel was almost new when we stayed there in 2005 and it's since made its way onto Trip Advisor's top ten lists. Check out their reviews for tht AF which are uniformly great.

socialworker Jul 19th, 2008 07:33 AM

You may still have more options than I would have imagined. I looked up availability at the Marconi and while the Grand Canal view rooms are usually booked way ahead, the hotel was showing rooms in all categories for August.

Just checked Aug 8, 2008 for the heck of it and they have availability at 170e. This is a great apartment like hotel right in the thick of things in Venice. I highly recommend it. Good luck

slangevar Jul 19th, 2008 11:07 AM

tuscanlifeedit - it depends on when you're booking the room. The rates at the Hotel Ala vary insanely from 105 euros/night for a double to 405/night. It just depends on when you're going.

Byrd Jul 19th, 2008 02:12 PM

Please check out the Ca dei Conti. We stayed there three or four years ago and loved it. It's on a small, pretty canal, and close to San Marco.

Rooms are large and lovely, and breakfast was very good.

It should be less that $500.
