Venice Hotel Location: Rialto or East of St. Marks?

Was looking for a quick sanity check - considering staying at Hotel Bartolomeo nearer the Rialto, or the Locanda Al Leon east of St. Marks for 2 nights at the end of April. Both get good reviews on Venere and Trip Advisor but I was thinking the latter might be a little more removed from the tourist bustle of the Rialto. From what I can tell they're each relatively close to the major attractions.

Of course since we're only staying there 2 nights it might not make much of a difference. Thoughts?

HI--we stayed at the Marconi, just 2 or so bldgs from the Rialto, and it was pleasant and, dare I say, quiet. It had the perfect combination of convenience and tranquility. We also stayed 2 nights in late May of 2000.

I'm no expert, but the area around the Rialto Bridge seemed one of the busiest parts of the city to me (I was not staying there).

Hi M,

I agree.

We stayed a week at the Marconi. Loved it.

The people watching was terrific.

Hi
best place in venice is the Dorsodusuro area. The Al Leon, frankly, is a bit of a flea pit, though they do have one spectacular room, and another couple that look onto the grand canal - and noisy boats!
The island can be walked across pretty easily - so the further from the tourist area the better.

thanks for your responses. I ended up reserving a room at the Casa Querini near St. Marks. Seems fairly secluded on its own small square.
