Venice - hotel in Lido Nord? or should we change it?

hi...
our father in law is booking us a hotel for Venice for our honeymoon...i was hoping to stay near Plaza San Marco.
he's choosing a hotel (Venezia Hotel 2000) in Lido Nord...i know we'll have to take a water taxi everywhere we go....would this be horrible?
we only have 3 nights in Venice. i never expected to go to Lido, let alone stay there for all 3 nights.
what would you do?
THANKS.

It wouldn't be horrible, but it would be somewhat of a waste (in my opinion). I'd definitely go for a less luxurious hotel that is on Venice itself. It doesn't have to be near San Marco, in my opinion.

You wouldn't have to take a water taxi - the vaporetto, which is public transportation, should be fine. But you would miss the experience of being in Venice when you wake up and go to sleep, which is a whole other world.

Hi psy,

What a lovely FIL.

How terrific of him to find you a luxury hotel on the Lido.

Vaporetto schedules are at http://www.actv.it/

It's about 15 min, and you approach Venice by the "front door".

Uh-oh. Where's Dr. Phil when you need him? If this is the hotel I'm thinking of, I hope you can respectfully and graciously find a way to thank your father-in-law and ask if it would be possible to book a two or three star in Venice instead.

I can't imagine going to Venice (especially on a honeymoon!) and not staying *IN* Venice. Somehow the Lido (to which I have never been) does not strike me as romantic.

It appears that this hotel requires a boat ride and also a bus ride from the boat landing on Lido (the hotel is not near the boat landing). I don't know when you're going, but there is a beach on Lido, so that may be a bonus if that's what you're looking for.

"What would you do?" For a honeymoon, I don't think I would choose to stay on stay on Lido. If there's a way to gently extricate yourself from the Venezia Hotel 2000, I would do that.

I think your father-in-law is very sweet to make this offer, but friends of mine stayed at this hotel and didn't like it at all. It IS a hike from the main vaporetto stop, and the rooms for the most part were very basic.

thanks everyone...
weadles- you've made my decision easier...
THANKS!

I refuse to go to New York City and stay in Newark.
I refuse to go to Venice and stay in Lido.

Sure you can get to either from the other, but when I go somewhere, I want to STAY there.

>"what would you do?"<

Immediately book a hotel in Venice of course ........and I would expect for the foreseeable future to get ugly ties for Christmas from my big spending father in law.
