Venice hotel ideas needed

Three couples will be spending three days in Venice in October. What area of town should we center our hotel search in? We don't want to spend all our time in transit on the vaporetti. Suggestions will be welcomed, and we would prefer something equivalent to the $85 to $125/night range. Thanks!

Do a search on this site, it has been discussed in great detail. Also look at:

www.venere.it

you will find many hotels with there ratings, as well as online reservation services. I hope this helps. Carey

I think the Dorsoduro area is very central (it's where the Accademia is located)and where you'll be able to find nice hotels in your price range. You can walk everywhere from this part of Venice, although I must say that Venice is quite small, and if you're energetic, you can really get around on foot. You only need the vaporetto to get to the islands and the Lido.

Try e-mailing to Locanda Art Deco in Venice. E-mail is [email protected] and the name of the person is Judith Boulbain. Small new intimate hotel in the San Marco area. Oh, and reasonably priced!

I like Hotel Galleria. I was quoted 190,000 lire (facing the Accademia bridge) for my trip this November (which is about $92) or 240,000 facing the grand canal.

Hotel Galleria
Dorsoduro 878/a
30123 Venezia
tel 041 5232489
fax 041 5204172
Luciano&Stefano
web site: www.hotelgalleria.it

DIRECTIONS: From the train station S.Lucia, from the car terminal piazzale Roma and from the parking area Tronchetto, catch the public no.82 going to the left and get off at the Accademia stop.

No credit cards accepted. I stayed at the Accademia in Sept and loved it. Great staff, location and clean. Take the Large room that overlooks the Grand canal and sit back with a glass of wine or your breakfast and enjoy.. great value that can't be beat. Enjoy, Venice is fabulous. Just get lost and walk!!!
