venice hotel. i just. cant. pick.

I know I know - do a search and you'll find tons of options. I know Locanda Orseolo is a big fave here - but this is a 10th anniversary and we want to go BIG. Not big like Gritti Palace - 1000 a night big. More like, 600 a night - palace type of hotel - centrally located - My two choices right now are the Londra Palace and the Metropole - both in Castello. Can anyone else provide a recco? And the 600 should include a lagoon view - I know, I'm asking for too much.

I would not consider either the Metropole or the Londra Palace as going BIG by any stretch. The Westin Europa & Regina may work depending on your dates.

Tried that. Lagoon view: 850 bucks. No good.

Any other suggestions?

The Pensione Accademia is lovely and in a great location. See:

http://www.pensioneaccademia.it/

There isn't a lagoon view, but it has two gardens and overlooks the Grand Canal.

La Calcina has a lagoon view and should be within your price range. see:

I don't know how much the Falieri suite at the Antico Doge costs now but it was large and lovely with a small balcony, www.anticodoge.com. We've stayed at the big hotels but this was our favorite.

Re : what Londres wrote

Sorry but since I too have stayed at thsoe hotels.

P.Accademia is on a side canal. Grand Canal can be seen but only a little.

La Calcina is on the Giudecca CANAL.

I loved both for this budget traveller but not sure for OP who is ready to pay 600 (is that € or USD?).

I recommend Foscari Palace's best room Gonzaga Suite, right on the G.C., spaceous, big two beds, 2 - 3 windows with balcony. OP doesn't say when. It's important to tell us because the rates change a lot but €600 should be enough even for high season for Gonzaga.

Hi

Congratulations! When are you going? Your buck will go further in off season. You might like the Boscolo Hotel Bellini -http://www.boscolohotels.com/eng/hotels/bellini/4star_hotel_Venice.htm. Some rooms have Grand Canal views. Try also the Westin Hotel - http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin...?propertyID=75.

Westin is already above mentioned Europe & Regina, that's over OP's budget.

I would not recommend the Londra Palace. It is very noisey, has a vapaoretto dock out front and when you exit the building , you are in the middle of souvenier kiosks, etc.

You do not mention whether that 600 is Euros or dollars. There is a huge difference. Depending on the answer to that you might be able to get Ae very nice room at the Palace Bonvecchiati in that range and if so it is a terrific choice

Depending on the time of year, you might get a canal-view room for $600(or so) at Ca'Sagredo Hotel.

I stayed at the Metropole because I was using Amex points and it was the only place in Venice where I could use them. It was very nice but there's no way I would pay E600 per night to stay there.

A junior suite with a balcony or terrace and lagoon view at the Hotel Cipriani in mid September is $3079/night.

Maybe you should grab that one at the Westin Europa.
;-)

The Monaco and Grand Canal might have something that would fit your wishes but their website doesn't give details of the rooms available. You'd do better to call and speak to someone.

Good luck.

I agree with kappa - The Foscari Palace. A beautiful hotel well below your budget. Here's a link to their page with rates and also to tripadvisor reviews. Great location near Ca d'Oro vaporetto stop. Fantastic buffet breakfast!

Westin Europa has a wonderful location near San Marco and it right on the grand canal. The terrace bar has a fantastic view of both canal and St Maria Salute. We stayed there on our second trip to Venice after discovering the terrace bar on our first! Good staff, knowledgeable. Our room had a little sitting area with french doors leading to the bedroom and bath areas.

ok. I picked. and it's not either of my original choices. It's the Al Ponte Antico:

http://www.alponteantico.com/

500 euro - jr. suite with a terrace. Bellissima.

Thanks for all the suggestions! (I tried Foscari and they had no rooms left

A perfect choice! Owned by the Locanda Orseolo family so it should be great.
