Venice: Hotel Flora or Kette?

Many people hear have recommended Hotel Kette in Venice, while others (off the list) have recommended Hotel Flora. Anyone have experience with both? I love the idea of the garden at Flora, but understand their rooms are rather dark (and they only have a "small" room available).

Kathy, I have stayed at the Kette on several occasions, so obviously I like it. Some of the rooms look out on a narrow alley or canal with the building across the way very close. That is the only negative thing I have to say about it. I thought breakfast was good, and my rooms have been nice. I had a tour of the Flora. The rooms are small, smaller than those at the Kette, but otherwise it looked very good. Both have a good location. Hope this helps some. Boots

The rooms at the Kette are also very dark - but does that really matter? The city is much more interesting to look at than a hotel room. You could look at the Savoia e Jolanda which is similarly priced but in a waterfront location. Have fun!

Kathy - My husband and I stayed at the Flora in 1996. We too were told that they only had a small room available. Don't do it! The room was so small we could barely turn around in it. There were two small twin beds and a miniscule bathroom. Granted, you don't usually spend a lot of time in your hotel room when you are travelling, but the room at the Flora was down right depressing. We've learned our lesson. If a hotel only has "small" rooms left, we go elsewhere even if it means paying more.

I guess this is personal preference.
I had a small room at the Flora in 98.
The bathroom was indeed very very small, but functional. The room I found small but charming enough, again fine for my needs, with a window overlooking the courtyard. I loved the hotel, it is more than the sum of its parts, in my opinion.
