venice hotel choices -- help

Author: Beth ([email protected])
Date: 11/13/2000, 10:35 am ET

Message: I have narrowed down my hotel choices in Venice for a June 2001 to these three. Has anyone out there stayed in one of these? The La Calcina (often recommended on this site) is fully booked, as is the Pensione Accademmia (sp.). Thanks for the suggestions.

Sorry -- the three are: Hotel Giorgione, Hotel Ai Due Fanali, and the Hotel Pausania. Thanks.

We recently stayed at the hotel Marin. It was very satisfactory and convenient. Also has a laundry next door.

My husband and I were in Venice this past summer and stayed in a small place called Hotel Tintoretto. It's on the main street that goes from the train station towards St. Marks Square. In August (prime time) we paid about $100 per night (including breakfast). It was very clean and quiet. I would stay there again.

Stayed at the Hotel Fontana very close to St. Marks square - lovely quaint hotel - no lift but rooms very quiet, very clean, lovely bathrooms and excellent buffet breakfast. The location was superb and very reasonably priced.

I stayed at the Hotel Giorgione for 3-days in May 1999. I had a single room which was very small, with a small bathroom. However, it was very clean, in a quiet location, with a friendly staff, and they provided one of the best breakfast buffets I've had in Europe. The only drawback is that it is not in the very center of Venice (i.e. San Marco), but it is within easy walking distance of the Rialto Bridge were I would take the vaporetto up and down the Gran Canal. In all, I would highly recommend the Hotel Giorgione.
