Venice - Hotel Bernardi
 

Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Bernardi in Venice? I've looked at the reviews on Tripadvisor.com and there are a few bad ones but mostly decent ones, but we're on a budget and it seems like a very good value.

If you are referring to Hotel Bernardi Semenzato, we have stayed there this year. I left a positive review on Trip Advisor.

It was well located, not far from a vaporetto stop (Ca' d'Oro), the room was atractive and fairly spacious, pleasantly decorated, the bathroom was an average size for an Italian budget hotel (I've seen many way smaller). It was very clean.

The staff was reasonably friendly, helped us find a supermarket and a laundry nearby. It could be a little bit noisy - both from the outside noise and from other guests. Our room was facing a small street and as there were a couple of osterias below, the morning deliveries were a bit loud but not too bad. Also, when we were staying there there was at least one group of French students and they occasionally would get loud so we could hear them running around and chatting with each in the corridors.

I found this hotel to be a good value for money in Venice. Convenient location, clean rooms with ensuite bathroom, reasonably pleasant staff and the cost was about 85 euro per night, a bit less if paid with cash. So I would not hestitate to stay there again if on a budget.

kasperedoggie--they couldn't have been French students. If you've read various threads here, you must realize that only Americans are noisy. They must have been American students practicing French for the next stop on their 2-week tour. Hah.

If anyone thinks Americans are noisy (and they are sometimes) you ought to hear Italians coming in late at night or early in the morning. Don't know how many times I have been woken up with a group of Italians chatting and laughing all the way to their hotel rooms. But happy noise so it is liveable.

We stayed there for a week in September for around 90 euro/night. We had a room in the annex and it was very quiet and nice. The room was simple, but had a private bathroom, tv with cable, an air conditioner, and a safe. Compared to other budget hotels, that was more than they offered for less money.

I haven't stayed anywhere else in Venice, but we were very happy with the room, location and staff. As mentioned, it is very close to the Ca' d'Oro vaporetto stop (both the main hotel and annex) and also close to good restaurants and shopping. The area of town is also very pleasant and usually very busy at night.

Speaking of restaurants... Very close by is La Perla (great pizza) and El Sol - one of the best and reasonably priced restaurants there. IMO, that's the one of the reasons to stay at Hotel Bernardi... :)

Actually, on a semi-serious note, I don't think Americans <i>as a group</i> are really noisy. I have seen Italian tour groups both in Italy and France, and boy, can they get into it with gusto... Americans are wilting wallflowers compared to a teenage Italian tour group :)

I can't answer for the decibel level of each individual American, but my family is probably the noisiest bunch of people I have ever met. You have to yell to get heard whenever there are more than 5 people in the room. They are naturalized Americans, for what it's worth :)

kassperdoggie, your comments on Italian teens make me chuckle. I have had up to 30 teens in my house at one time and let me tell you, the noise was unbelievable. One could not only not hear talking on the phone one could not even hear the phone ringing!

And BTW, my family can get so loud at times ones eardrums almost break. They are quiet though in public thank goodness. Well most of the time.

But again, happy noise! But Americans for sure are not the only &quot;noisy&quot; travelers.
