Venice hotel//bed & breakfast?

As I continue to iron out details of our June trip to June-I have found this site is the BEST for true advice!! Everyone here is so wonderful!

Now, the question for this thread!

We will be in Venice for 2 nights, in June. Right now our only tourist type plans are: Gondola ride and a ghost night walk. (I don't have much info on either as these are mom's findings).

What is your opinion about lodging in Venice for such a short stay? We are interested in good atmosphere but don't require a large hotel as we probably be there much! What have your experiences been? What did you fnd to be safe and convenient?

Hotel budget?

Well, for Venice, I'd like to keep this one down a little (splurging in Sorrento and probably Switzerland too). I have read that 200E is not feasible in March-so I believe the same wil be true for June, but that's where I'd like to keep it.

200 euro is perfectly feasible. Try Corte 1321, pleasant and well located, on a quiet courtyard, no bridges to cross from San Silvestro vaporetto stop.

I stayed at the Hotel Mercurio, one of the lower-cost options. Nothing fancy but pleasant and very conveniently located.

Last summer we stayed at the Al Ponte Mocenigo which is a small, lovely hotel, very close to a vaporetto stop. We paid 140 euros for a large room. We were there in August, the rates may be higher in June.

All of the rooms are lovely and something unusual, are exactly as depicted on the website. The lobby and most rooms are on the 3rd floor of the building, one that is a bit off-putting with the outside the entrance being down a very narrow typical alley but a stone's throw from the Accademia Museum and Accademia Bridge. It is very near 2 vaporetto stops and no more than a pleasant 15 minute walk from Piazza San Marco. The hotel lobby is reached by the most miniscule elevator that I have ever seen, barely large enough for 2 small people. Two average sized people only fit if embracing, which makes for a swell start to an evening after a day of touring. The rates for June should be well within your budget and their annex should be open then too. I hear the annex is very nice as well but we did not see it when we were there.

If considering this hotel be sure to specify either room 4 or 5 if you want the main building. We were in room 4, the seen in the first photo of the second row of the room pictures. These are very large and overlook the San Trovaso Canal and the Church square across the way - be prepared for the church bells ringing in the morning - we liked that. The other rooms on the floor do not have windows at all and are smaller, but the furnishings and decor are similar. The baths are modern and very nice. Breakfast is served in the lobby, so just outside the rooms, but they must be well insulated because we did not find the sounds of breakfast very noticeable, but then we are early risers.

We have stayed in the annex of Palazzo Guardi twice, rooms very nice, miserable breakfast (we didn't bother after the first day.) Who actually eats tinned fruit cocktail?

3gen, We are staying at Campiello Zen B and B. Well within your budget...and highly rated on TA. the owner has been lovely via emails.
We'll also be in Venice for 2 nights in June, and (later in the month ) Sorrento.

Interesting tarquin. other than the tinned fruit cocktail, that was OK, they had a nice selection of yogurts, cereals etc. Not the best we have had, but certainly satisfactory with decent coffee.

3Gen--Good question. What drew me to Cmapiello Zen: the low prices! the reviews! the emails between the owner and me! The cute dog they have! The green room (which we chose).location not far from rr station, but not right in the midst of the busy streets next to the station.
I booked several months ago and there were still a few June openings for the room we wanted (they have three rooms). to it. Not sure now about June but schedule is on their website.

Another we liked was http://www.casangiorgio.com/ in the junior suites--cost more than Zen.
We need two beds (mother and daughter) so that is one thing that affected our choice.
