Venice Hotel and James Bond

I just viewed the latest James Bond movie - "Casino Royale". Does anyone know the name of this swanky hotel in Venice that 007 and his 'squeeze' stayed at. As a clue, at one point Bond opened a window and looked out onto Piazza San Marco. Or maybe this place doesn't exist and is just part of the spy fantasy?

Hi Travelnut. The Hotel Cipriani looks impressive enough for a secret agent, especially at E4500 a night! I don't think it's this one though. When Bond opened the window he was literally overlooking Plaza San Marco. Maybe a cut and paste job in the studio lab!

Hi W,

I don't think that there are any hotels that face onto San Marco.

" Piazza San Marco is bordered on the right and on the left sides by the Procuratie, which are connected by the Napoleonic Wing. ...Both the Procuratie, the Old and the New one have galleries over the 50 arches of the ground floor portico. The third side of the square, the one that face the Basilica, is taken up by the Napoleonic Wing. [which] houses the Correr Museum collection".

imdb.com often lists the places where movies are shot. Maybe you can figure it from looking there?

Obviously, no one read the link I provided. Cipriani has another property that overlooks St Marks..So here is the text directly from the website:
"...The Dogaressa is located on the Piano Nobile of Palazzo Vendramin, right opposite St. Mark's Square and the world-famous piazza appears through its four gothic windows...."

Further support:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381061/locations
- Cipriani is the only hotel listed in Venice, and is where the yacht was moored.

So are you saying the view is not from across the canal..? If you mean it appears that the hotel is AT piazza San Marco, then 'cut and paste job' sounds right!
Don't you hate it when the studios toy with you like that?

Thanks everyone. Yes I think it's a cut and paste job. My knowledge of Venice is far from extensive but I must admit not being aware of any hotel overlooking Pizza San Marco. Ira err I mean "M" makes a strong case for that. Oh well looks like I will have to buy that yacht to get across from the Cipriani after all. Martinis anyone?

Hi W,

>Yes I think it's a cut and paste job. <

Don't be upset. The Game of Intell/Counterintell requires that we do that.
