Venice hotel advice

On to Venice hotels. Since we are probably staying in an apt in Rome, I thought a hotel in Venice would work. After finding out that both my favorites Locanda Orseolo (out of my budget anyway which I stretched to 220 euros/night), & Pensione Accademia are not available for my dates beg. of June, I have come up with a few alternatives that I need help with.
1. Palazzo Duodo - I really like the location & the price & the fact that it has a 2 room suite since there are 4 of us. The negatives are that they want one night's payment by bank draft now & I'm not comfortable with that, not sure how much my bank will charge for it or how they will refund it in case of cancellation and also the lack of reviews by Fodorites.
2. Casa Rezzonico- Good reviews, not sure if the room will be large enough, has anyone stayed in their quad room? Also the distance to San Marco Square etc, I was hoping to be within a quick walk so we could go there at night or early morning for a stroll.
3.Casa Cosmo - Good location? Not much information, pics are not too attractive.
4.Al Ponte Mocenigo - Good reviews but will have to change rooms after one night, also seems far from main attractions.
5.Corte 1321 has a quad available as well, that could be another choice.
Hotel Riva's quad room is not a/c.
Looking for advice, help on distance, convenience etc.
Thanks so much Fodorites, for helping me plan this trip, everyone on this forum will be tired of me by May!.

I stayed at Hotel Ca' Formenta
http://www.hotelcaformenta.it/index_en.htm and I think it will be well within your budget

It's in Castello and what I really liked about it was the location..even though it's only about 10 minutes from San Marcos, it's in a real neighborhood and you get to see real Venice. It's also extremely easy to find.

If you want to see pictures of the hotel, you can go to my website http://www.lynnsview.com/Gallery/
I have many pictures of the hotel, the neighborhood and even from across the way from the top of the Giorgio campanile.

Enjoy your trip, I am jealous

mountain hippie,

Your advertising tactic will only hurt you. Because of what you've done, I would NEVER use your websie, in fact, I'd rather pay more than use your website.

I absolutely love Al Ponte Mocenigo. Stayed there this past May after having stayed there the prior September. The area is fun and not at all toursity, a respite from the throngs in other areas. It is just a few steps from the major vaperetto route so everything feels easy to get to easily. There are some charming squares and a couple of nice restaurants and gelato places. Walter and Sandro are terrific hosts at the hotel.

I am sure there are lots of great places in Venice but I would go back here again and again!

Thanks kathrynj, I have read all the great reviews but I am just a little apprehensive about the distance. Some people are used to walking so a mile to San Marco Sq would not be a problem but I wanted a location where we could walk there in the night for a cappuccino or a gelato if we wanted to, even after we had come back from dinner to the hotel. Would we be able to do that from here? The vaparetto ride to San Marco seems quite long too. Please let me know. Thanks.

I am also a big fan of Al Ponte Mocenigo. I don't find the distance from San Marco long, but then I'm happy to explore other parts of Venice at all hours. The walk to San Marco would be quicker than the vaporetto (which is truly steps away). The walk to San Marco would take me 15-20 minutes, depending on my route and whether I paused to gaze longingly at the Grand Canal while crossing the Ponte Rialto or stopped to window shop. I, too, like the less frenetic pace and quality and prices at the nearby restaurants.

excited_confused,

These are my notes from a 2006 family trip to Italy. Both our sons have two children, and they were in the quad rooms:

It was a short walk down a narrow alley and through Piazza San Barnaba to the Casa Rezzonico pensione on the Fondamenta Gheradini. Each family of four had quad rooms on the ground floor. Even though these rooms were just behind the reception area, it was quiet in the rooms because there are heavy entrance doors mounted on the door frame, plus an additional interior door.

Our room was the “penthouse,” which is a “double” large room on the third floor. All three rooms were furnished tastefully, with air conditioning. (The four second-floor rooms in this pensione did not have air conditioning.)

Casa Rezzonico is located in the Dorsoduro sestiere, and it was the best choice for this trip. Since we had children with us (who had been cooped up in an airplane from the U.S.), the garden area in the Casa Rezzonico was a terrific place for everyone to spread out and move about. I liked Roberta, the housekeeper, who had a terrific sense of humor. My only complaint is that the air conditioner unit in the double room is mounted on the wall directly above the bed and it was somewhat difficult to control the air flow, plus the stairs are steep leading to the third floor.

Our first breakfast in Venice was in the lovely garden of the Casa Rezzonico. There are six round tables covered with tablecloths under a gazebo with four flowered china place settings on each table. Our family took up half the tables in the morning. The continental breakfast included cereal, coffee, fresh fruit, croissants and a variety of yogurt.

Hope this helps.

Right now I am trying to decide between Al Ponte Mocenigo & Casa Rezzonico since I have not heard back from Duodo Gregolin after I emailed them asking if they would accept a deposit on a credit card/credit card guarantee instead of a bank draft. Anyone else willing to offer an opinion of the places I have listed above or help me decide between the two?

As you can see there are many nice hotels in Venice.

let me just say that I stayed at Palazzo Duodo and liked it a lot.

You always have a water front canal view from your window., pretty hard not to in Venice

Percy, I'm so glad to hear from someone who has actually stayed at the Palazzo Duodo. How long ago were you there? Which room did you stay in? The owner recommended the White room for us but that does not have a canal view. How were the furnishings etc.?
Lastly, did you have to send a deposit by bank check as well?
