Venice GTG in late March?

Four weeks from this very moment I will be crossing the Atlantic Ocean, landing in Venice on March 20, staying in Venice until March 28. Then I'm traveling around Italy for 10 more days, but less sure of where I'll be. Anyone interested in a get-together in Venice during this period?

Have a great trip to Vienna.

I chose this time in Venice on purpose - after Carnevale, before Easter - figuring it would be less crowded, so I'm not sure I'll get any takers . . .

Do you usually go that time of year? How is the weather? I think I'll wait until May or maybe September.

I've actually been in Venice earlier in March once before a few years ago (March 9-11) and had varying weather--one day gloriously sunny and close to 70 degrees; the next day cloudy, cold, and rainy with a teeny bit of snow; and then next day sunny and in the high 50s. I've been to Venice in March, April, May, June, September, October, and even late November. I love the less temperate and way less crowded off season. Not everyone's cup of tea . . .

ellenem- that is a possibility! We are arriving Venice the morning of March 26th (Saturday).

When were you thinking of a GTG? I'm thinking maybe that night at a rooftop bar somewhere? Or canal-side would be ok, too.

Hope a few more come on board. I'm pretty sure there may be another Fodorite or two visiting same time.

I' not sure what I was thinking . . . a drink, a coffee, afternoon, evening . . . whatever seems to work. Glad there are Fodorites who will be there!

Just to bump this up again.

I'll have my wee not-quite-a-laptop with me, to keep in touch with the plans.

8 and 1/2 days, and hyperventilating.

La Zucca is right around the corner, and I've always wanted to go there.

Everyone seems to write good reports about La Zucca.

I'm in! We will be arriving Venice morning of Saturday, 3/26 and departing Tuesday morning, the 29th. No specific dinner plans for any night. We are staying in an apartment in Cannaregio; we're just 5-10 minutes by vaporetto.

La Zucca sounds great! I will have my Iphone with me, and my laptop. So, ellenem, you can post date/time here or email me. paulam910 at hot mail. I can give you my cell number then.

Looking forward to it. Oh, we are two. So, if you are going to make a reservation... due, per favore!

Grazie!

PS La Zucca is on my Venice Restaurant google map I made, and it came highly recommended by franco, my go-to for Italy eats.

FYI, La Zucca is closed on Sundays.

Meanwhile, I will be the least accessible--no cellphone or laptop--though I will have a phone at the hotel and I plan to access internet occasionally. My email is my Fodors name at hot mail. Anyone who cares to join the fun during that time can email me.

We've been to La Zucca many times and can't recommend it too highly. Won't be in Venice until April 1, so will miss this get-together. Sorry - maybe next time.
