venice from cruise ship

We're taking a TA cruise in Nov. departing from Venice. We'll be in Venice from one afternoon to the next afternoon. Want to take a gondola ride. Can we walk from the cruise ship terminal into Venice to catch gondola, see some sights? We are not able to fly in a day early. Appreciate information.

>>Can we walk from the cruise ship terminal into Venice<<

It isn't walkable but is an easy vaporetto ride to the center of Venice.

But if you are in Venice prior to the cruise . . . won't you be staying that night in a hotel in Venice and not on the ship?

The ship overnights in Venice. It departs at 1 the next afternoon.

OK -- some ships offer shuttles, either to Piazzale Roma or possibly all the way to St Marks Sq.

gondolas are available at both places.

Didn't your cruise company give you info like this: http://www.italylogue.com/planning-a...et-there.html? About half way down, there is a map showing the cruise terminal location and the St. Marks area which is probably you are heading for sight seeing. It is probably about 2 miles and yes, it is technically "walkable" by navigating narrow streets and crossing bridges, but when you can catch a frequent vaporetto from Piazzale Roma, why bother? Of course, you can take a water-taxi to speed up the trip, but unless you are a big group, per person cost will be very high.
