Venice fllooding?
 

I read Venice was under water recently. Is it still flooded? What's the weather like in mid February?

The tides that "flood" Venezia are just that -- tides. They tend to affect those parts of Venezia closest to the Piazza San Marco.

It is really hard to be precise about weather in February. Sometimes you can luck out with sunny, dry weather -- although you still need a coat. It can snow in Venezia (rarely) or it can be rather like an overcast refrigerator.

If your concern is flooding (which can be a risk in February), book nearer the train station.

What do you mean recently, the famous one on 1st of december? Or smaller ones that followed? I was there 25 - 28 Dec and there was no sign of acqua alta (venetian flooding) AT ALL even though one was expected on 26th (full moon). You really cannot predict acqua alta longer than a few days ago, it depending on more than one factor (tide, wind, rain, etc).

Whatever -- I think my own post wasn't sufficiently clear.

The tides flood the low lying parts of Venice on some MORNINGS. The norm is or the water to be infrequent and quickly disappear.

Sometimes (like last month) Venezia experiences a whopper combination of tides, winds, rains, etc that push the level of the water higher.

Even with tidal floods, passage through Venezia is possible because the Venetians erect walkways above the water line.

However, I still recommend not booking a hotel in the low-lying areas of Venezia between roughly November and March. Book nearer the train station.
