Venice - Flight departing Marco Polo at 9:10am

Hello All,

Wanting some advice on the best way to get from Rialto to Marco Polo. Our easyjet flight departs at 9:10AM; we have checked bags so will need to be there around 8:00AM to check in?

Is the Alilaguna Arancio line at 6:03AM or 7:03AM (http://www.alilaguna.it/en/linea-ara...ncio-timetable) reliable and early enough for this flight?
I have read about their strike days and would hate to be stuck at that time of the morning.

Thank you in advance.

I would give Venice airport two hours for check in. It can be quit hectic in the mornings. The late boat at 7:03 will not work. Even the earlier boat might cause trouble.
Tha Alilaguna is reliable in my experience but takes over an hour to get to VCE.

NYCFoodSnob Jun 15th, 2013 03:42 AM

If you must take the Alilaguna, I would take the 6:03 to Marco Polo. The stress associated with the 7:03 is NOT worth the trouble.

Thank you. I did not think the 7:03am was doable.

What are the other options we have? There are two of us with two suitcases and carry ons. Is water taxi the only other option? How much would this be so early?

bilboburgler Jun 15th, 2013 03:51 AM

you could walk to the bus terminal and catch the bus, less dramatic but..

Easy Jet and other budget airlines are very strict about check in and times to be at the gate (being in line to check in doesn't count with most of the budget airlines - must be completed check in by the times indicated).

Just a thought -- I spent a night before an early flight at a hotel (with breakfast and shuttle service) about five minutes from the airport. It really beat the stress of worrying about waking up before dawn and catching the boat from Venice.

I didn't say it wasn't doable, but it could involve running, the need to speak Italian, online check-in, traveling with no bags, etc.

You can take a vaporetto to Piazzale Roma, and then a land bus from there. I've never done it, but I think this is the cheapest way to the airport. A water taxi is another option, the most expensive, but it's a fast and fun way to say goodbye. There's a 10€ surcharge before 7 AM.

The Alilaguna is a civilized mode of transport that is worth every penny. I wouldn't hesitate using it.

I know nothing about Easy Jet.

Being in line at an airport where you have to check a bag only an hour + beforehand is cutting it too close. Definitely pay heed to the good advice of going earlier or spending the night near the airport.

Different strokes for different folks. Some people invite stress and worry too much, about every little thing. I'd rather stay up all night walking the streets of Venice before I would consider an airport hotel.

A 9:10 AM flight is not early. Catching a boat in Venice is the way of life, no matter what hour.

Here's the timetable for the bus from P.le Roma to the airport (it takes about 20 minutes; the 7:20 should work but 6:50 should be really safe):
http://www.atvo.it/images_doc/linee/...6.10.2013).pdf

It is a long walk from Rialto, especially with bags, so staying near P.Le Roma and just walking a couple blocks is one way to go, or take vaporetto #2 from Rialto to P.le Roma - - here is a schedule: http://www.atvo.it/images_doc/linee/...6.10.2013).pdf

bilboburgler: The walk to the bus is 20+ minutes from our apartment. With two large suitcases, I would prefer not to take that option. Plus the chance of us getting lost could really delay us to even get to the bus. What do you mean by less dramatic?

abbydog: Thank you for your advice. We have already paid for our apartment in full which wasn't cheap. I would prefer to stay in Venice though and have an early morning. I can already tell we will be making the most of our last night and not wanting to leave!

NYCFoodSnob: It will not be doable as we do have suitcases, speak no Italian and can't see us running haha.

dfourh: Thank you for your efforts in linking those timetables to me! I really appreciate it.

Can anyone tell me how much a private water taxi at that time would cost?

Also, when there is a strike, does that affect all forms of transport?

NYCFoodSnob Jun 16th, 2013 04:35 AM

The water taxi will be around 100€, depending on with whom you book. If you call for the taxi pick-up before 7 AM, add a 10€ surcharge. This does not include tip. http://www.motoscafivenezia.it/eng/

Strikes do not affect all forms of transport. I travel to Venice quite often, and I stay for weeks at a time. In the last 10 years, I have never experienced a strike. If one occurred, I wasn't aware of it or it didn't affect me. There's no need to be overly concerned about a strike.

So glad to see you won't be risking a run with your luggage. Many tourists make this mistake, and watching them struggle is always a pain. It's much safer to plan your arrival/departure with tender care.

Pepper_von_snoot Jun 16th, 2013 04:39 AM

A water taxi is about 100 euros.

I would definitely do Vaporetto to Piazzale Roma, take Aeroporto bus # 5 to Marco Polo.

You can buy your tickets the day before so you don't have to stand in line at ticket counter at Piazzale Roma.

I have done this trip. It is easy as pie.

Marco Polo is very small airport.

Security is nutso, however.

Thank you all for your advice! It is much appreciated.

joannyc Jun 16th, 2013 07:46 PM

You can take a land bus or a land taxi from P. Roma.

Pepper_von_snoot Jun 17th, 2013 05:56 AM

Welcome!

Will be in Venice in three weeks!

Boy, do I ever need this holiday!

You have lots of luggage, and you're going to tote it at 5:30 am from your apartment to (a) the Alilaguna stop or (b) the vaporetto stop and then to the bus terminal?

OK. This could be the most interesting part of your trip.

Pepper_von_snoot Jun 17th, 2013 09:11 AM

What I don't understand is why people travel with so much luggage.

I make it in Venice for two-week holiday with one little roller bag.

If you have lots of luggage do yourself a favour and just pay the 100euro for the water taxi.
That is what we did with an early flight, I am not fully awake really early in the morning and not into sprinting to make connections while dragging a suitcase plus carry-on.

Actually leaving Venice in that water taxi was a really fun experience, lovely to watch the city receding into the distance as we sped across the water. (was kind of like being in a James Bond movie!) Worth every penny to us.
