Thanx, Danielle.

Still having difficulty though - Brie and prawns?

Maybe I'm just too set in my ways.

Antico Martini was our best meal; the dining room at the Europa Regina was excellent also, top notch.

Of course, the Cipriani was superb also; we had lunch one afternoon at the terrace by the pool.

Lower priced meals were hit and miss, imo;
we had a few quite ordinary dinners but they were ok.

Ira...
you mean to say you've not yet discovered the joy of a prawn and brie baguette?
A freshly baked demi split and filled with thinly sliced brie, prawns in a soupcon of mayo, a twist or two of freshly ground black pepper and a hint of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and (if you're feeling adventurous) a smattering of rocket leaves (that's arugula to Americans).... mmmm heaven!

What a lunch with a glass or two Chablis!

Melissa, I hope they didn't try to send you to McDonald's first also. I got the feeling that's where the girls in that Lush shop were headed for lunch themselves.

How does one make thin slices of a soft, runny cheese?

Doesn't the stong flavor of the Brie overwhelm the prawns?

Are we talking about the same cheese? :)

Melissa I was just reading this post to Al, and we were saying that on this trip we WILL find Trattoria Ca'd Oro which you told us about, then here you are again, must be a sign! :-)

The first thing I'm going to do when we get to Venice is find Trattoria Ca'd Oro.... I will, I will, I will!!! I'll write and tell you all about us.

PS... I'm still researching all the local wine estates for you.. hehe!

Mischka Oct 11th, 2004 10:29 AM

What I wanted to say was, I'll tell you all about IT, not US! I must have done a bit too much research lately :-)

culinary rules change, but until recently nobody would suggest combining any cheese with any seafood. just like nobody should grind grated cheese on linquini with seafoood.

Ira, I don't know anything about brie on pizza, but I do know how to slice it thinly. Just slice it when it is chilled. It only becomes runny at room temperature.

Hi Mischka! Yes, I was doing fodors research last night as a friend of a friend is going to Venice soon and I wanted to give him some of my notes on places to eat. I do hope you find it! I didn't get to tell you, but I did not win the Megabucks in Vegas (yet) so I'm flying back there in 2 weeks to try again, then we'll see if one of your favorite wineries is in my very near future!!

Nikki: Actually, my niece and I wanted to go to Paradiso Perduto, since Mario Batali on the food network recommended it. We got there and found they are only open Thurs-Sun, so we trudged on and found the Lush shop. Once we were done at Lush, we asked the gal where we could stop for lunch, and she actually led us out of the store, down the street, and to Trattoria Ca D'Oro! Very sweet.

Uggggh now I'm getting jealous of everyone as I read these posts of upcoming trips! ;)

Pam...Vegiesurfer is right......
LaZucca is the place for you.....it's one restaurant that I return to.
Wonderful food!! Reasonably priced but do call for reservations....they are small & fill up fast!!

Hi Pam,

Another recommendation for Al Covo. I had a wonderful dinner there and even went for the desert. The owners, husband Venician, wife Texan, met at one of the Houston hotels and decided to open their own restaurant in Venice. She is a pastry chef and her deserts are to die for!

Buon viaggio!

Melissa, too bad about the lack of megabucks :-(
Better luck next time.
If you have any words of wisdom on Venice I'm all ears.
