Venice - Car rental

It's been awhile since I rented a car in Venice.
Which location is better: Piazzala Roma or st the airport?
Any pointers or suggestions?

Where are you heading to and when do you need a car? It is not a one-size-fits-all question.

We haven't decided if will head north to the Dolomites or down to Tuscany.
Going in January.

I've just been searching online, it seems as if my choices have changed. Mestre or Marco Polo are the two choices. We used to rent at Piazzale Roma...hmmm

Depending on your routing in "Tuscany," another possible recommendation is "neither," if you are trying to match the transport to enable your itinerary. However, if you are a rent-a-car-and-see-what-you-can-do-with-it person, you can rent one in isolation from your itinerary. Use other criteria important to you.

"Better" in what way? Price? That's easily ascertained online. Airport locations usually charge more - then again, their hours are usually longer than the locations in towns.
Or geography? Piazza Roma is a bit of a tight squeeze, and first you have to drive up onto the mainland. From the airport you have a headstart in just about any direction.
So, what is "better" as you see it?
