Venice: buying vaporetto pass at night

I will be arriving in Venice around 8pm and would like to buy a travelcard. Is there a ticket office at Marco Polo airport that will be open by the time I go through customs (however long that will take), or can you buy the pass from an automated machine?

At this stage, I am planning on catching the bus to Piazzale Roma, then catching the vaporetto to the nearest stop, but the ticket office closes at P.R. at 9pm and I don't know if I'll get there in time to buy the pass.

Can you buy the travelcard online before hand like the venice card, or is that not necessary?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Karen

Just another question.
Would approaching Venice by boat(Alilaguna)be a waste in the dark?

Would riding the vaporetto down the grand canal be a better first approach to Venice?

I think the approach via Alilaguna in the dark would not be as wonderful as during the day. Arriving at such a late hour, I would want to get right to Venice, which is probably more quickly done via bus and vaporetto as you suggest--most quickly if you take a taxi to Piazzale Roma.

Sorry I can't answer your questions about ticket office times or online purchasing . . .

Hi K,

I wouldn't worry about the pass.

It's only 5E to ride the length of the Grand Canal.

ellenhem- Thanks, that's what I thought.

ira- you're right. If time was money, I've already spent more than pass worrying about it.
