Venice: Bus from P.le Roma to Marco Polo VCE
We'll get off the cruise ship to go to the airport: people mover, then a bus, either ATVO or ACTV. Can we pay the driver on the bus, or should we buy tickets from vending machines?
We'll need only one-way tickets, not passes. We'll have HelloVenezia passes for pre-cruise stay.

Dayenu,
I bought my ATVO ticket at the ticket office in the row of shops/offices to the right [as you face away from the vaporetti] of the bus stop in Piazzale Roma; then I saw that others were buying the tickets on the bus.
that was 4 years ago.

It would be more convenient to pay the driver, just to hop on the bus that comes first... no such luck if ACTV comes first?
Ann, somebody told me about the ticket office too, probably they're switching to no-cash Oh, well, when in Ro.. Venice...

the ACTV goes from a slightly different place, or rather a different bus stop on the piazzale. it would be difficult, but not impossible, to watch out for them both.
I'd go for the ATVO - it's comfy and doesn't stop.

The ACTV runs twice as frequently as the ATVO much of the day, but the two lines stop on opposite sides of Piazzale Roma.
You can download both schedules, each from its respective website ( http://www.actv.it/pdf/urbano/U-5.pdf and http://www.atvo.it/images_doc/linee/...6.03.2011).pdf ) so you have a better idea when you get to Piazzale Roma which is next, rather than running back and forth from one side to the other.
ACTV is just about as comfortable as ATVO, in my opinion (I actually like it better, to be honest) and the fact that it makes intermediate stops is really not much of a factor, considering that the ACTV n°5 line has "capolinea" at Piazzale Roma and the Airport just like ATVO, and the time between the two is almost identical, even with the few stops.
The ATVO has the advantage that its stop is closer to where the PeopleMover exits.
