Venice-Bus from Airport??

We have a room booked at the Arlecchino Hotel in Venice. We're told the bus station is visable from the front lobby of the hotel, and that transport from the hotel to the airport is only 3 euros each. Does anyone know how convenient this bus trip is, and is there room to stow your luggage on the bus? We're travelling with a party of 9-10 people, and are trying to reach the hotel with as little cost as possible.

Do you mean the bus that leaves from/arrives at Piazzale Roma? If so, then yes it's very efficient and drops you right at the airport door (going out, of course). I can't remember the exact cost, but I do recall thinking it was a great deal. I think we took our luggage on the bus with us.

Good luck!

I'm not sure which bus station it is. This will be our first trip to the area. We're actually hoping to take the bus from the airport to the hotel.

We took the airport shuttle for an early morning flight after staying near the bus station. The only thing I would recommend is buying your tickets the day before, particularly since you have so many people travelling. You need to look after your own luggage which was on the bus with us, but otherwise it was very convenient and relatively inexpensive.

Hello Valsal,

If I understand correctly, your question is how to get from the Venice (Marco Polo) airport, which is located in Mestre on the mainland, by bus to your hotel?

Here's what worked well for us. At Marco Polo airport, on the first floor near the entrance is a land bus ticket kiosk (english spoken fluently). We purchased round trip tickets to Venice on the bus for 5 euro. You can also purchase your vaporetto tickets or multi-day passes there as well.

You walk directly out the front terminal and the bus stop is right there. I believe the bus runs every 30 minutes.

We each had a medium roller suitcase and a smaller backpack carry on. The bus had a good amount of room for luggage. The trip is direct, no changes, and takes about 15 or 20 minutes.

It drops you at Piazzale Roma (which is the location of the "bus station" on the island), and it is a very short walk to the vaporetto stop.

These buses are standard size for public transport, and will easily handle a group of 9-10 people.

You should be able to find the location of your hotel on a Venice map as well as the location of Piazzale Roma to judge the walking distance. If the hotel says you can see it from the lobby, it sounds like an easy walk (most likely with one bridge to cross).

Hope this helps.

Here's the website for the bus.
http://tinyurl.com/2lbbg
Look at the column on the left. At the top, under "Venice Airport Terminal" you can click on:
--Timetable
--Destination Map
--Airport Map
or --Venice Map of Piazzale Roma

Check the map on your hotel's site to locate its proximity to P. Roma. Even if you have to take the vaporetto, it's very easy. Just be sure you have a good map of how to get from the vaporetto stop to your hotel.

Just to clarify the things that are not mentioned (or ?)

Hotel Arlecchino is really close to Piazzale Roma that is the only land Bus Terminal on Venice proper. Your hotel meant this.

There are 2 sorts of land buses between Piazzale Roma and marco Polo airport.

ACTV bus No.5. This is a sort of city bus that makes a few stops between Piazzale Roma and marco Polo airport and the price as far as I know is €2. ACTV runs land bus and all the water bus line (not Alilaguna airport shuttle boat) so if you by chance have valid water bus pass (24/72hrs), the No5 ride is inluded. The ride is a little over 30 minutes. Like a city bus, you have to keep you luggage with you. There are racks for luggage but with 10 people you might have problem put all on the racks. Once I took this from P.Roma to airport. The bus was full including standing space. On the other hand, Airport to P.Roma was almost empty.

ATVO is a direct shuttle bus line between airport and P.Roma and costs €3. No stiops inbetween so the travel is shorter (perhaps a little less than 30 min). This is a long distace type of (high decker) motor coach and have a luggage compartment underneath. You put you luggae in there when you get on and get it back when you get off. This is sit only coach and no standing allowed.

Your hotel meant ATVO, considering the price, I think. For a group of 10, this might be easier.

The URL I poted above says things that don't match what I said.

1. Luggage rack on ACTV bus. The one I took from P.Roma once had one in the middle (and maybe another neat the front BUT the one I took from airport did not, so it can vary depending on the coach types.

2. Rate on ACTV. €1 may not be up to date. I think last May it was €2 but am not sure.

Thanks to all of you for this awesome information. With your help, we're saving many dollars (not that I won't spend them elsewhere, but it will be a lot more enjoyable I suspect).
