Venice - budget hotel

Hi there,

I am a bit overwhelmed by all of the information about Venice hotels and thought someone on here may be able to assist with a recommendation.

We arrive in Venice at 11am via boat from the Croatian coast and fly out the next day at 6am.

Can anyone please tell me

1. the most convenient area to stay in which will be close enough to the main sights to allow us to do a quick 1/2 day walking tour; and

2. any recommendation for a hotel in that area. Budget options preferred - something around 120 euros would be great.

Thank you!
Rachel

The price is going to vary hugely depending what day it is.

Most hotels in Venice will be convenient. To make life easier for your early, early flight, consider getting a hotel near Piazzale Roma. Then early in the morning you can either get the bus to the airport, or you can take a land taxi. That is much surer than taking a water taxi to the airport, as that can be affected by fog.

I only know one hotel in Venice personally - on some days it will meet your budget, but not all. It's a pleasant 3* hotel.

It's probably about a 15-minute walk from Piazzale Roma, so you might want something closer, although it's convenient from the point of view of sightseeing.

From another post of yours, I see you are planning this trip in Mid September. That's high season. So expect the hotel rates accordingly. Also you might still be happy to have air-condition. With that in mind I recommend a nice 2* Mercurio that is in San Marco area, very central and near Fenice theater.

I have checked the rates and it's €160 for a double room so it's a bit more than your budget. I stayed there in Low to middle season (€ 50 - 75).

You might try the Hotel Bernardi. We have stayed there several times. Very clean. We paid 90 euro for a double. Easy access to the vaporetti.

Another nice hotel in a great location is the Villa Casanova. www.casanovavenice.com
It is just a block or soo off St. Mark's Square, and there are often special prices. I stayed there once and got a tremendous rate that included a full breakfast...and my room acutally had a "peek" of the Grand Canal.

thank you so much for all of your helpful suggestions. i have found everything in venice to be booked out already for september so i have sent emails to all of the recommended hotels and hopefully something will come back available! i think we will have to forget about the budget for one night and just hope we can find something which is available.

I don't know if they have availability for your dates but we were very pleased with Albergo Marin. It was clean, convenient, friendly and easy to get to from the train station. It is not fancy! Here is the link for it on Trip Advisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...ce_Veneto.html

I don't know how to do Tiny URLs Sorry

To get your one-night stay, I'd suggest these sites:
http://www.venere.com
http://www.ratestogo.com
http://www.laterooms.com
http://www.gtahotels.com

In this case, given you want to book just one night during a very busy time, I'd suggest you just use a booking service and take what you can get.

We've had similar overnight, last minute, stays at places near the station. They weren't fancy, but were very convenient and reasonably priced. It is great to quickly check in, stash your luggage and head out.

Try this site for a dozen or more hotels with reviews in that area. Most are around 100E and had good reviews. Check out Hotel Hesperia.

Willtravel's last post is the best advice for OP's case.
