Venice: Best place to turn in rental car?

We will be turning in a rental car in Venice in September 2014. Currently I have it set to turn in at airport and take a water taxi to Venice. My question: Is the rail station a better turn in location? We will be staying near Rialto Bridge for a few days prior to leaving on cruise. Any tips on this appreciated. We just want the easiest location to use for turn in to get into the city. We have been to Venice a few times so are familiar with the area.

I suggest Piazza Roma. From there you can take the vapporeto to your stop. Check with the rental car company for office hours to make sure they are open when you plan to return the car.

Hey dawg,

Ditto Piazzale Roma. It is the terminus of the causeway as you enter Venice.

Enjoy your visit.

Check Kemwel.com for best rental rates, especially with no deductible. Great customer service. They are a broker and work with most of the major car rental companies. They will also beat any comparable price. I've used them for years and have always found their rates the best.

Piazzale Roma is by far the best location. It's easy to get to, and from there you are just a short boat (taxi or vaporetto) ride to the Rialto.

The rail station could be the Mestre station, and it is harder to get there, then you must take a train or bus or taxi to Piazzale Roma, where you'll be if you turn the car in there.

The airport is too far away and too expensive for a water taxi. Get one at Pzle. Roma for about half the cost.

The advice you got here is spot on.

Okay y'all, here is a Piazzale Roma question:

Where can you gas up a car before returning it at Piazzale Roma?

I currently have a Hertz car booked. They charge a 45 euro premium to turn the car in at train station instead of airport. Is this worth it?

That does not compute !
It is not the train station--it is Pizzale Roma, and Hertz has an office there---why the charge?

There is no road access to the train station (Venice Santa Lucia). Maybe the Op is thinking of Venice Mestre, on the mainland.

Gas the car up in Mestre before returning it.
