Venice - August heat relief?
 

We will be in Venice in August for 2 1/2 days. Any suggestions for afternoon heat relief and just how hot does it get in August?

This is hard to predict. I was there on July 4 one year expecting heat and almost froze for the first two days before it warmed up. Hotels have portable a/c units that help some if they are not air conditioned. Other than that, get a cold beer in the square and enjoy the town. Texans live that way all summer.

If you are a typical American, and the climate in August happens to be typical of Venice in August, then you'll probably want A/C in your hotel. Otherwise, I don't think you'll find it unbearable when you are out and about town. Most of the narrow alleyways are shaded for most of the day, anyway, making a walk not at all unpleasant. Of course, you could go to the Lido beach if you choose. You can expect August temperatures in Venice to vary from a high around 85 in the afternoon to a low around 60 at night. Rarely will the temperatures vary from those levels by more than 5 degrees.

We were in Venice last August and it was about 95 degrees in the shade the entire time! Did not feel cool even in the evening. We had air conditioning in our room at the Hotel American and the rest of the time we just resigned ourselves to the heat and humidity. We had a great time!

Definitely get a room w/AC. I was in Venice during July and it was hot and humid. I wilt easily, I'm from the Northwest and 80 degrees is a heatwave. At the time Venice was in the 90s, though I found it did cool nicely at night. When its hot while traveling I stagger my sightseeing with sitting in the shade with a drink and I dip into air conditioned stores. I also will take a 30 minute or so rest in a nice hotel (always nicer than where I'm staying)and read for awhile.

Thanks everyone. I do love the heat but was a bit worried about my husband who thinks he will wilt! Just wanted to have a back up plan in case it was in the 90s and humid.
