Venice area
I am planning a trip to Venice in July and want to spend a few days afterward in the area. Any suggestions for places close by that are worth visiting? I'm a single, 54-year-old woman.

Hi jb,
Verona and Padua have gotten good reviews. See www.trenitalia.com/en for train schedules and prices from Venice. |
I found that I liked Trento and Bassano del Grappa a lot. Sirmione and all of Lake Garda are also very pleasant.
Best wishes, Rex |
Goo dmorning, Padua and Verona
are both excellant choices. Padua is an excellant day trip out of ?Venice SL being about 40 mins by rail, Verona about an hour and a half, better to stay your overnite(s) in Verona instead of trying to return to Venezia.. Richard of LaGrange Park, Il. |
Verona is a good choice. There is a really nice walking/shopping street (great people watching on a Saturday night) near the arena, lots of cafes and wine bars that I think you would feel comfortable in alone, interesting sights like the arena itself and many hotel choices. But I think the opera festival runs in July so rooms may be hard to find. Try the Torcolo or the Armando.
Verona was an unexpected delight for us, a very convenient stop on our last trip. There are numerous trains running between there and Venice. |
