Venice and Water Taxis
Four of us are going in Oct. and I have several questions.
1)How to get from baggage claim to the water taxi stand at the airport? 2)How to establish the price for transportation to a hotel on the Grand Canal which has its own boat landing? 3)Will a single water taxi transport four adults with baggage for a three week stay/cruise? Thanks |
1) the taxi stand is right outside the airport, so it's a short walk (we did it 2 adults and 2 kids).
2) ask the driver what he charges before getting on the boat. 3) you will all fit. These boats have plenty of room for 4. |
You have to walk. It isn't bad. You will have to roll or carry your luggage.
I think the price is set at 80 euros. I could be wrong about that. That is for a boat that holds 8 I believe. You can take the public transport, but it takes longer and then you have to schlep the luggage more. |
I'm not sure of the ecact cost, but I beleive it will be around $100. I think we paid $75 5 years ago.

Believe it or not the Water Taxis do have meters attached and the driver should charge you whatever the meter fee is plus luggage. There are officially regulated prices, but Venice being Venice the meter fee is usually never charged or the official prices honored. Get a quote first or insist paying the meter fee. If you try the latter you will probably get the excuse that "the meter is broken" or "this taxi doesn't have a meter" etc. It is all part of The Great Venice Tourist Ripoff, but we all still love the place and have to go there.
The Taxis can easily accomodate four adults plus luggage. |
The rate from the airport to a Grand Canal hotel is E80. Early morning rate is E90. This is the cost per taxi not per person. This is as of Dec '05.
